Baleur -> Request, pretty please let us turn off shield bars.. (11/25/2011 10:22:08 PM)

Loved this game since launch, but one thing that always annoyed me was the shield bars.
Essentially, i play the game quite actively, but i let the AI handle combat. I dont micromanage so knowing when a ships shields are low or not has no impact on my playstyle. Seeing the shield effect itself is all i need. When i no longer see it, i know the shields are down anyway :)

So with that, it greatly disrupts my view of a fun battle when half of it is filled with blue/red shield bars flying all over the screen. And with carriers / fighers all around it is even worse.
I know i can press D to disable all UI icons, but i dont want that. I want the UI icons and the tactical ship symbols (triangles, circles, that sort of thing).
I just really really do not want the shield bars..

Erik? Anyone? Pretty please hotfix an on-off button in the options menu? *cough your competitor AI War has that option cough* [:D]
Is there any way i can disable them? I don't mind if i have to dig around and tweak things here and there, i just really want them gone.
<3

WHAT?! You don't like the D key!? [:'(]

But seriously, how about we add some more cycle levels to the D key:

- All graphical details on
- Shield bars off
- All graphical details off

How about that?

Any other graphical elements you'd like to include in the above cycling?

Sorry to interrupt, but...

the game is just released, a beta patch is out in a day or two, and the developer is actively considering these on-the-fly changes from the fan base. As an old-school guy who remembers paying Microprose for patches, this is just amazing. I was hesitating on Legends, but you won me over.

Astounding [:)]

Absolutely. [&o] Particularly when many of these changes could be considered new features. [sm=Cool-049.gif]

Love your work.

Hear, hear. I too would like a full-on cinematic mode. I know the graphics aren't exactly AAA, but they are very endearing and pleasant to look at all the same. Something like the one-button click that Sins of a Solar Empire has would be ideal.

And, yes.. you guys are awesome.

Matrix and Codeforce attitude and respect for their playerbase is literally second to none in my experience.  Also, practically everything you find in Legends and RotS and most of the patches for the original was at some point discussed with the fans on the forum. [;)]

I don't know how to explain it, but the graphics are just so comfortable? reminds me of alot of the xcom series, graphics are 2nd place to gameplay, but they still have a basic charm to them. I would think maybe a toggle in the options for shield bars? I don't think you need them bound to a hotkey, just the have D turn everything ui off (including shield bars) for screenshots / movies, then have specifics eg. shieldbars togglable in the options menu.

Well, before Legends I felt they were too blurry--but I play on an HDTV that's been conscripted to be a Monitor, so that was my fault. After Legends, the ships all look very good. The graphics remind me of AI War, except that you actually have time to enjoy them on a more zoomed in level!
