Hello all,

First off would like to thank Erik and all of CodeForce for a wonderful game. I work at (Name omitted) video game store and own a lot of games...and this one is nowhere on the radar but I tell people about it all the time. Any game that can pull someone away from all the incredible titles that have come out this year and keep me from playing any of them deserves a freaking award. Oh and Woodman I just have to say that your contributions to Distant Worlds have made the game richer and more enjoyable and you deserve every bit of credit you get. Now then while this is my second post on the forums I have actually been playing for a long while. I must say you all are great and bust me up half the time. Reading this forum is almost as good as playing the game itself. So I come to you with this...

I am playing Legends and I started the game as the Humans...played and noticed that the Zenox were completing all the wonders in the universe. Then I run into them...68 colonies to my 22...Holy cow [X(] How did they do that!? So I start a new game this time with the Quameno...I will show those dirty stuck up rodents what Turtle power can do...well that is what I told myself until like clockwork..."Zenox have the Bakuras High Speed Ship yard" and when I run into them...GREAT GRAVY...72 colonies to my 27...oooookay I tell myself...time to test something...

SO...I go and start a game as the Zenox...and I immediately throw my scientists into a locked air tight super sekreet laboratory and tell them there is only 12 hours of oxygen in the room and if they want that door opened they better get me Accelerated Construction before they all turn as blue as a blushing Securan on her first date...So I throw some cash in the room to crash course and motivate them and off they go [&o]...

Now fast forward and I hear a knock...open the door to be met by a wave of stale air but the relieved faces of my scientists...they have it [sm=terms.gif]...YES! I tell my engineers to build it...IT WILL BE MINE! FINALLY IT WILL BE...wha? What do you mean the Quamenos have just built it...like 20 seconds after I told you to build it...is that what you are telling me? [sm=sterb020.gif]*Fires his desinto ray 2000 at the engineer and watches him fade into a nice crimson haze*

Ok so...must have been a fluke right...restart...repeat...FIVE TIMES...five more engineers [sm=00000106.gif] all same result...I complete the research and it is always already built by another empire...I have my home system on the highest quality and all the others on normal...I should be WINNING! *Grabs his advisor and pounds him against the wall* I SHOULD BE WINNING! DADDY TOLD ME I AM A WINNER! AM I NOT THE SUPREME MASTER OF THE ZENOX[:@]? I WANT MY SHIP YARD!!!! *Pant pant* *Composes self and lets the advisor's limp body slip from his fingers then takes a sip of water* Now I am not a unreasonable Grand Techno-wizard of the Zenox Technocracy...I really am not...but could someone please tell me that they HAVE been able to get the Bakuras High Speed Ship Yard so I can at least feel better about myself...

Oh and if someone tries to slip me one of MartialDoctor's chill pills I will kill...I will...whoa...I am feeling really good and...*Looks down at his water* Oh man...who slipped the pill in my drink? Woodman? Data? I just wanted an answer to my...*Slips into a coma*

Yep, I have gotten it about 4 out of 5 times. I crash research straight to it and crash research it.

Oh, and I play as human is that matters

Holy cow, I just about ran out of air I was laughing so much. [:D]

Thanks for the compliments and yes, I've managed to complete it first, even as the Humans. Some of this is focusing on it and some is luck as if a more research focused faction decides to beeline for it, they will likely get it first. There are many other wonders though... [8D]

Regards,

- Erik

Welcome Danith222. Fantastic story!!! [:D]

[:D]

Thanks for the feedback and the laughs

Note that some races will also have a preference for some tech types, so they might end up crashing some research projects to prioritize that tech, which might mean they get access to some wonders sooner.

Welcome to the community, Danith! One important thing not to forget is special research locations, snagging one or two of those really early can give you that edge you need to obtain victory.

On a similar note, atomizing anyone else's research labs helps too [:D]

Erik Rutins -> RE: The little emporer that...could not... (11/26/2011 4:03:30 AM)

Retrofitting your starting space port to max out the labs in the area you want to focus on also helps.

Regards,

- Erik

Great introductory post [:D]

Thank you for your kind comments and welcome to the DW community [;)]

Edit: and not got that wonder yet, but I'm going for it right now with my Humans.

J HG T -> RE: The little emporer that...could not... (11/26/2011 7:25:25 AM)

Hahha! Great post Danith222!

Had almost the same happening for me in my game; I decided to get high-tech research wonder before moving my focus to that sweet shipyard. But, just moments after starting research on the bakuras shipyard message stating that quanemos are already building it came in. Forget that then. [:)]
Still, I've got bot high-tech and weapon research wonders on my homeworld, and for a Kiaidians that's really good thing.

Welcome to the forum, Danith222. It could not be me....I enjoy torments like this [:)]

Haha, I locked my Ikkuro scientist into a black hole research facility until he finished marshy swamp colonisation research.

What must have been SECONDS before completion, a messaged popped up explaining:

"Our scientist Klopis Vuulior at X Station has been pursuing the wrong path while researching Marshy Swamp Colonization.
This mistake has set back progress on the project as existing research is cancelled and new ideas are investigated."

Mr Klopis, you are dismissed.[sm=fighting0083.gif]

Hah! It is very obvious that the character system has brought a lot to this game in both immersion, fun, and challenge. Well done!
