MasterChief -> Guardians are not playing around…! (11/28/2011 4:02:59 PM)

I am early into a game (playing Humans) and ran into the Guardians home system almost immediately. No big deal, they like me and have never been a problem in any of my games in RotS.

I obviously couldn’t make a trade agreement with them (they don’t need or want anything I have) but my civilian freighters soon started making a beeline for their colony regardless. At first this wasn’t an issue and several freighters were orbiting their star base waiting to unload cargo.

I then ordered an explorer I was manually controlling to refuel at the nearest source and it went straight for the Guardians home system. As soon as the exploere jumped into the guardian system, I got a warning from the Guardians to remove my military ships from their territory (hey,it was an unarmed science ship)[;)].

I had never gotten this warning before, and based on my RotS experience, I figured this was no big deal. Heck, I used to steal choice worlds right from under their holographic noses by colonizing on top of their mining facilities and they would always stay friendly with me.[8|]

Well that was in RotS and not Legends. After I ignored their warning they opened up with everything they had and slaughtered my explorer and then proceeded to turn several innocent freighters waiting to unload cargo into space dust! I sent a diplomatic message warning them to quit firing on my ships and they responded saying “it was an accident”.

The problem now is every time an explorer enters their system (and it is hard to keep them out if I have them on auto) I get the warning. To make matters worse, my civilian ships (that I can’t control) keep shuttling cargo into their system just to be chased out by defending Guardian carriers. My freighters jump into system and immediately shift to “escape Red Mauler” (which is the Guardian carrier with an attitude). They have been successful in retreating but are wasting valuable fuel and cargo space making useless and dangerous runs to the Guardian system.

Anyone else run into this and if so how can I force my ships to avoid this system![&:]

… interesting side note, though they have vaporized several of my ship’s they remain “friendly” to me… smug AI #@$%#$# [:o]

My issue with them is usually they build mines on everything in sight that is of use\value to me.
I've never had them attack me unprovoked till once last night when they randomly (as far as I can tell) blew up one of my escort ships that was flying by a bunch of there mines.

Currently there is no way to "quarantine" a system and keep your ships from going to it. It is a feature that has been requested a few times now.

Nedrear -> RE: Guardians are not playing around…! (11/28/2011 4:27:06 PM)

Yes it is a problem. You can't quarentine a system as of yet which sucks. You should be able to quarentine systems in regard to your ships.

Cauldyth -> RE: Guardians are not playing around…! (11/28/2011 4:37:18 PM)

Yeah, sounds like another good use of a quarantine feature (SilverMist being another).

yeah, as mentioned in another post (I think it was the wish list) this is another good reason for quarantine. This would also apply if you are getting ready to go to war. You could warn your civilian ships to clear an area before it becomes hostile and keep them out until you had finished smashing your enemies! [:D]

Hello MasterChief.

Two things. First a question. Have you checked to make sure your freighter designs don't
have any armaments? I've noticed on occasion that after a new game start, depending on the
starting Tech Level, freighters may have one or two shatterforce Lasers in their design
(I immediately remove them and redesign to avoid just such situations).

Secondly, I believe that due to the new added 'spheres of influence', armed or not, the
explorer ship class is considered a military vessel since in mid-to-late games they
usually are armed (I arm mine from day one).
(Imagine sending a explorer into a system armed only with the top of the line Devastator
Pulse weapon! I don't want it to come close to my station either!)

Just some thoughts on the matter! [:)]

In all my games so far they have attacked me soon after the refugees arrive for reasons that are unclear.

Don't worry about this buddy [;)]  They are just keeping them warm for when you get that colony tech and colonize the planet, making their mine vanish.  I've got them keeping Loros Fruit and Korrabian Spice warm for me at the moment, now I know where they are I'm crashing research into marshy swamp and then working toward desert, at least no rival Empire is getting their benefit while the Guardians are mining them.

And great thoughts they are...
I did check my freighter designs and they are indeed armed by default (2 maxo blasters). However, they were initially shuttling cargo to and from the Guardian home world without issue until my explorer showed up. I will try removing them and see if that appeases the uptight hologram #$#@$#@!

All being said I DO LOVE the improvements of Legends. It makes perfect sense to me that a society like the Guardians would religiously defend their home system with a xenophobic fervor. I just wish I could respect and honor their stance by keeping my ships out of their territory!

Of course, one could look at United States history to draw a parallel. The US government established huge swaths of protected territory for the plains natives. However, greed led gold prospectors, cattle ranchers and settlers to ignore the boundaries… which led to native reprisals! The American people demanded the government send in troops to protect the citizens (even though they were clearly the trespassers). Mix and shake well with racial animosity and you have war!

So true MasterChief! [8D]

Fideach -> RE: Guardians are not playing around…! (11/28/2011 10:12:47 PM)

They seem to be only going after any of my ships that enter there system this game, that is armed with any weapons.

Also on this note are the Guardians always started by the PC empire to keep our economy from stalling? Starting my latest game in the worse settings to make it as difficult as I can on my empire.. noticed that all the resources I didn't have access to, I was getting from the Guardians..

Yep I am seeing the same thing... armed freighters are not welcomed in Guardian space (or unarmed explorers... guess they look to much like spy ships!)

I had to start my game over because my explorers would not avoid thier system. Guess thier caslon was higher octane then our home brand![8|]
