Playing as Human, part of my victory conditions is making Mutual defense pact with 15% of players.I have a Protectorate with someone but the game
does'nt consider it a Mutual defense pact.Is this a bug?

Hello Martgord and welcome to the community! [:)]

As far as I know, concerning the victory conditions, Free Trade Agreements and Mutual
Defense Pacts are considered in the same boat. But I believe that Protectorates are
considered separate from MDP's.

We got protectorates? If you mean you subjugated it, it is rather a vassal than a protectorate. The former is a forced version the latter is a friendly one. I think you did not ask them to "give up a portion of your money so that my mighty forces can be redirected to defend your lands in my name for protection" but rather said "kneel before me and pay or you will get crushed". That is NO defense or friendly behavior. That's conquest!

The Galactopedia does link MDP's and protectorates pretty closely.

And if it would be, you could "subjugate" a weak friendly empire for protection. You can't!

My protectorate was on friendly terms, offering them protection which they happily accepted. The free trade agreement is not in the
same boat as MDPs because I have a few of them and they are not counting towards victory conditions.
Any other thoughts or is it a bug.

Nedrear -> RE: Victory Conditions Human (11/29/2011 3:34:17 PM)

If it was a friendly protectorate without subjugaton - have to check diplomacy on that - than it is a bug or a slip of mind for the victory conditions by the devs.

Gelatinous Cube -> RE: Victory Conditions Human (11/29/2011 7:15:55 PM)

Not really. Some others races have protectorate in the victory conditions. You could see at as Humans not wanting to prop up weaker empires, only seeking the partnership of equal powers.

Or it could be an oversight.[:D]

martgord -> RE: Victory Conditions Human (11/29/2011 7:26:13 PM)

I would say oversight.Once you get strong enough there is no option for MDP only
for protectorate,so that would hamper the Humans ability to use that win condition.

elliotg -> RE: Victory Conditions Human (11/29/2011 9:40:43 PM)

This is by design. Protectorates are different from Mutual Defense Pacts in that one empire is substantially stronger than the other, and thus it is like a 'one-way' Mututal Defense Pact - the larger empire protects the smaller one.

So the victory conditions specifically call for a certain percentage of Mutual Defense Pacts, i.e. alliances between peers, not between you and a smaller empire.

Nedrear -> RE: Victory Conditions Human (11/29/2011 9:49:38 PM)

So the humans "goal" is to boost the power of others to live in a fair world with equal share of power? Doesn't that bite the princip of corporate nationalism? Still nice idea... and we can mod it for our own demand anyway.
