I am going to purchase Distant Worlds and Return of the Shakturi this evening- Maybe get the new expansion later on... Finally going to break down on this...

Anyway- Do I just install both- Return of the Shakturi second of course- and run updates for Shakturi? Or do I need to install and patch the base game first then so the same with Shakturi?

You do not need to patch DW to be able to patch DWRotS or to instal it. At least as far as I remember.

only update the game on top
if you have dw and rots, just install dw, then rots and then update rots.

if you have legends, just update legends
