Busy day, but I think we came out better... What does the readership think? 10 MAY 1942 Submarine Actions: S-39 is attacked at Tulagi for minimal damage. I-154 is attacked twice off of the south end of India for two hits. I-19 is driven off at Pago Pago, four times for one hit. Grouper contacts some ASW assets for no damage to either side. I-24 is sighted at Ndeni, hit, and driven off. I-24 is later attacked and set on fire by APD Kane. Pollack puts 2 torpedoes on Ise North of Tulagi, one penetrates belt armor for heavy damage! One duds. No damage to Pollack. Drum is sighted off of Korea and does no damage. Permit launches two torpedoes at some PB ASW ships for no damage to either side. Surface Actions: The 3xCA, CL, 7xDD TF engages the Japanese 2xCA, 2xCL, 5xDD TF at Ndeni. We lose the Northampton and 2xDDs to torpedoes. They lose 2xDD, but also have heavy damage/fires on one CA, and one CL. The other CA and CL appear to be significantly damaged also. A draw, which this appears to be is a win for us, as it drives one part of the Rock-Paper-Scissors they have been using against us. 2xCL, 4xDD bombard Kolaka for minimal damage. Air Actions: Buna is swept by 11 P40Bs, 3 Zeros rise and no damage is done to either side. Also, later by 2 more P40Bs for no opposition. Bandoeng is bombed twice by 56 Sally’s total for minimal damage. Iloilo is bombed by 15 Sally’s for some facility damage. Cebu is bombed by 12 Sally’s for some facility damage. Akyab is bombed by 16 Wellingtons and 19 B17Es for 5 airbase, 3 supply, 21 runway, 1 port, and 1 port supply hits. Buna is bombed by 27 B17Es for 2 airbase, and 10 runway hits. The Marine Raiders are sent some air support, 7 P40Es and 3xB26s. 4 Zero’s show up to play. 1 Zero lost to 2 P40s lost. No damage to ground forces. Ground Actions: Bandoeng is deliberately attacked for almost 1200 casualties for the Japanese and about half the number of casualties for the Allied forces. Bombardment at PM yields 89 Japanese casualties for 60 of our own. SigInt of Note: Radio transmissions detected at Lunga (114,138).
