I can't say how much ammo these ships had IRL compared to what the game is modeling. But there were not any multiple day carrier battles in WWII that I can think of. They all were very sharp and short engagments. As the Jap player, this can work to your advantage. The US has tons more AAA than the IJN. So hitting a TF on the second day is going to result in a lot less casualties. Since you know this is going to be the case, you can plan ahead to take advantage of it. If you have any Vals or Kates on the beach, then have them resting before the battle starts (you should assume that when you sortie your carriers their will be a battle). After the first day of the battle, depending on what you plane casualties look like, you can fly these rested formation onto the carriers to give you a fresh group to attack with. The lower amount of Flak, combined with their lessened exhaustion should yeild excellent results. Go chase those suckers down! :D
