sbach2o -> 1.7.0.2 - Ruins on planet with a mining station are not explored (12/5/2011 9:48:05 AM)

In a 1.7.0.2 game I approached ruins on a planet with a mining station, first with a warship, then with an explorer. They failed to explore the structure (for the information about the development bonus, you cannot expected the other ruins event to trigger when someone else was there ahead of you - the Ancient Guardians in this case).

This is a bug that was once present in the case of ruins on planets that have been settled by another race before you finding the planet. Then you didn't get info about the ruins' development bonus even after taking over the planet. That has meanwhile been fixed.

It seems the case with a planet with a mining station needs still to be handled.

ps: I didn't load the game in 1.7.0.4 (yet) to see whether this has been fixed meanwhile. The patch notes of more recent versions do not indicate this, though.

It has been the case since RotS and all Legends versions so far that ruins are not always investigated. I can confirm this for 1.7.0.4. I have the setting to 'always investigate' but have to manually explore the ruins a lot more than it happens automatically.

It's an old bug - it's been happening that way since v1.0.........

It was partially fixed, namely for ruins on colonized planets, as I note above.

It should be fixed completely, although there is probably no big deal here. The development bonus only becomes relevant, once a colony is settled, and once the colonies in question are settled, the ruins probably can be explored for info about the bonus. So not much of an issue, but still an issue.

There are more juicy stuff than development bonuses out there.

Empire wide bonuses can make you colonize things you otherwise would not, and discoveries never hurt when exploring either (star systems...).

It is annoying seeing idle explorers (automated) smugly thinking "all is explores", when there still are unknown resources and unexplored ruins in the galaxy.

He, thanks for the reminder, Bingeling.

Yes, to think that the ruins may be one of the super bonus sites... Then you really need to know. So the issue isn't as trivial as I thought.

Although I have to admit: in that particular instance I cheated and switched to the Editor, to have a look at the ruin's properties ;)

Sometimes you buy maps from othe Empire/pirates or find them at ruins.  Ruins at these Map parts never get visist by Explorer and dont get investigated.

Thats why Explorer would need a 2. Automated option, Explore unexplored ruins.

Note that you can always manually investigate unexplored ruins if they fail to be automatically explored for some reason:

1. Move one of your ships nearby to the planet/moon with the ruins (within approx one diameter of the planet)
2. with your ship selected, right-click on the planet/moon to generate a pop-up menu
3. In the pop-up menu select the option "Investigate Ruins"

This mechanism also applies to investigating undamaged abandoned ships and bases.

There is no option for manual investigation available in the case in question.

I have uploaded a save game, filename: sbach2o-RuinInvestigation.zip. An explorer ship is already on top of the planet with the ruins in that save.

Thanks for that savegame.

This issue is fixed in the next update.
