RedArgo -> question about super weapon trading (12/17/2011 8:33:51 PM)

Hello,

First off, loving the game.

Second, is there a way to remove the super weapons from the game? I don't know if they are overpowered compared to other weapons in combat, but it my last game I was significantly behind one of my allies in research, but I randomly got the death ray and was able to trade it for everything the other civ had that I didn't, saving me a lot of research. I know I can just not trade it, but I'd like them to not be in the game at all.

Thanks.

You can turn off the original DW storyline, I think (I'm not 100% sure) that they're part of it.

They're part of the game unfortunately, and found in ruins, I don't think they can be removed unless you go into the editor at start of the game and remove the ruins with them. Their value in trading is extremely high, but rightly so if they as they are quite strong.

I too would like an option to remove/disable superweapons (ala Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2).  Never cared for them.

has anyone seen the other faction's ship equiped with a super weapon? [:)]

If yes, and if those have found it before the player... things might get interesting... no? does the AI ignore those for its own designs?

AI most certainly will use them. They'll use anything they find. In a game right after Legends came out, I was surprised to find my neighboring Mortalens had both Way of Darkness and the Death Ray. Wholloped me good.

Trading them for oodles of cash is a good thing to do in the short term, but remember that some day you'll see it used against you because the AI trades tech too.

Be wary of this, the AI will definitely make use of those super weapons!

Whenever I find them I just blow them up. (The death star wreckage).
You can blow them up even if someone else finds it and starts repairing it.

That would indeed be a good thing to have, but it would rip the teeth from Shakturis world destroyers. Just destroyed two of them in my current game, now that Shakturi vs. New Freedom Alliance war is in full swing. Insane battles I tell ya! So insane that my computer literally run out of memory.
Oh, well; New computer coming in holidays anyway. [:)]

Pro-tip: jump-inhibitors and concentrated fire work wonders on WDs and Shakturis super capitals.

^  I'd be fine making an exception for the Shakturi to still have them, especially since that seems to be part of their background/storyline.

I still don't want anyone else having superweapons, though (including myself).

I'd like an option to disable tech trading in game as well. Things seem to blast ahead from tech level 2+ as everyone trades their tech to each other, so tech level 3-6 stuff see’s little or no real lifespan in game. With no tech trading/buying empires would have to earn their advances and defending against intelligence operatives would be a huge deal in game.

Also high percentage tech bonus planets/systems would become a seriously important strategic commodity in game. Right now when I get one I say “cool”, but I don’t feel the need to build up huge defenses or anything as they don’t feel important in the long run to the tech race. If I had to actually research everything I used however…

Jim
