AntoniChmielowski -> Patch Question (12/31/2011 8:48:07 AM)

I have v1.06.1108r6 installed but my proposed opponent has v1.04.1106I (and he has other games running).

Can he upgrade to the latest version AND carry on playing his existing games ? (ie will existing games run with the latest patch ? OR will I have to wait for him to finish his existing games and for him to patch ?).

Thanks guys for your help !

The Beta patches are made to be along-side the latest official release. When you run the patch it will create a shortcut for the patch. If you run that shortcut, you get the patch. If you run the regular shortcut, you get the old software.

Note that if you use the official beta patch from Matrix that it will replace the main EXE.
However, if you use the beta installer from this forum, then it will create a separate directory for the beta and a shortcut to it as mentioned above.

Thanks for the help guys but I cant understand the answers you have given ! can you please help me further !

1) The patch I downloaded was an official patch downloaded using the upgrade option from the front screen
2) If I click on the icon from my start list and it immediately goes straight to downloading patched
3) Where can I can find the beta installer on this forum ?
4) Can I have more than one WiTP installation running on my system ?.

Thanks for all your help guys !

What they are saying is that if you've not used the official beta then there should be two shortcuts on your desktop. One to the beta2 folder and the other to the 1106i in the root directory. The official beta overwrites the 1106i in the root dir.
1. Never tried so not sure which version it upgrded to.
2. I always use a desktop shortcut rather than the Game Menu Icon or Quick Start.
3. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2859420 (first post)
4. Yes, Copy the folder and make a new shortcut to the exe.

1. The update process mentioned is the official patch process. It does not use the betas, so currently would be at the 1106i stage.

There are two methods of beta currently:
a. the official beta 'r6' that is loaded from the Members area,
b. the un-official beta 'r6?' that is loaded from the thread in the Tech area (this version addresses the issues with (a) above).

Thanks for your help guys, I *think* the way round my problem is to wait for my proposed opponent to finish his games and then update.

Once again guys thanks for your help !

The easiest solution is to have a separate AE for each game! This is perfectly permissible and simple to do.

Simply create a new folder - I call them by my opponent's names - copy your complete folder with WITP into that and it will run as a separate game. You can then update each game as and when you want to.

Your only limitation is the size of your hard drive!

Roger
