Spaghetty -> Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 7:32:17 PM)

I am getting a bit tired of these pirates. So I wonder, if I finish them off, will the spawn again? Or is that it?
Already my setting are low on pirates activity.
Thanks!

Astax -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 8:02:09 PM)

Yes they do

Spaghetty -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 8:16:49 PM)

Is it just me, or are there just too many? I keep on micromanaging these pirates.

Johnnycai -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 8:57:03 PM)

Pirates can be a nuisance, but they also provide a valuable method (and the only easily applicable method with the way I tend to play) of gaining reputation to offset the reputation hits we all likely face increasing our empires.
Try putting a long range scanner on your planets/stations on your periphery and/or try keeping some scout/escort that have l-r scanners, they can scan those pirate bases for your righteous vengence. Pirates also provide treasure, info on ruins/planets/lost ships or the occasional ship that will join you once squashed. [:D]

Jerkface -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 9:32:37 PM)

They seem to spawn less as the the galaxy becomes more civilized...colonized and long range scanned.

dazoline II -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 10:13:02 PM)

I find putting a gas mining base on all planets with caslon eliminates where they can spawn.

Registered55 -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/4/2012 10:31:00 PM)

yeah, there does seem a lot of them, annoyingly they also use my "Escort" designs....[:@]

the other thing is, the AI does not destroy them anywhere near as much as they should, i have had Pirate bases quite close to my planets, and yet no suggestion from my minister to send a fleet in and wipe them out. given what pirates stand for, and what they do, it's quite unrealistic that humans would treat them as though the year is 1500's, and pirates were ruling the seas.

due to the ineptness from my own ministers regarding there threat, and how they keep harassing my mining stations and still no retaliation from my defence minister (who i wish i knew how to fire!!!!!), i have had no CHOICE but to turn off "Pirates" all together, didn't want too, but when there are pirate bases only a few parsecs away from planets that are mine, and yet my fleets do nothing........ what choice do we players have..... i can't keep taking out pirate bases manually over and over....and over......... and over........................again.

BigWolfChris -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/6/2012 1:11:03 PM)

IIRC, Pirates should only spawn in systems that no empire has visibility in
So any system that has either a colony or base in, or is within range of sensors shouldn't have a pirate base appear

dazoline II -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/6/2012 2:12:30 PM)

I've had pirate bases spawn in systems under sensor detection. One second nothing, the next a base with a shield counter just starting to rise from 0. I'm not sure about a base in the same system as I think I've seen spawned bases happen in systems where I've had a mining base. The only sure way is to place a gas mining base at each caslon source which prevents a second base spawning.

Shark7 -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/6/2012 3:04:03 PM)

I play with pirates at max. They're fun to engage while I bide my time waiting for the moment to begin my march of conquest. Keep em coming. [:)]

You can turn them off.

scotten_usa -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/6/2012 8:59:45 PM)

I like how pirates help your reputation, but I also get tired of the noisy alerts popping up every few minutes.

tjhkkr -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/6/2012 9:29:15 PM)

The biggest problem with pirates is getting all their ships... if you blow away there bases, their ships join other priate groups (if they do not join your fleet).
I have on several occasions met up with pirate fleets that had 12 - 15 different kinds of warships.
The best thing to do with pirates is to blow them away early and often.

Astax -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/7/2012 1:28:07 AM)

What you mean its a problem? You get ships then you retire them to get free tech, I dont see a problem...

Yes, if you do get their ships, yes.
If not, they form a huge fleet, and then can become a significant problem.
It is best to nail every ship you can so they cannot form that fleet of 15 ships, and then make a nuisance of themselves.

J HG T -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/7/2012 8:18:05 AM)

I kinda like pirates forming huge fleets. Especially when I'm playing a little less "lawful" race and can hire those pirate fleets to do some seriously effective raids on other empires.

On the topic: The pirates become much less nuisance when you tech up and get proxy sensors, long range scanners and much faster hyperdrives. These help both track down and take down pirate bases much faster. Building custom made AWACS ships (basically cruiser sized ships with long range scanner and loads of fuel and energy collectors) and stationing them near to probable raid targets gives you some time to react and track down the pirate ships point of origin.
The legendary pirates can still give be a problem but let's not talk about that too much. [8D]

Theluin -> RE: Do pirates spawn? (1/7/2012 8:18:31 AM)

Yeah, you should especially destroy the phantom fleet of the legendary pirates.
I once destroyed only their bases and the fleet just joined another faction and kept on raiding my installations.

That is where you give them a good old fashioned beat down and conquer the offending empire. [;)]
