Gentlemen,
I ask for some assistance on a situation I encountered during a scenario. It happened twice and the second time I took screen shots. Perhaps this is explainable.

The incident involves a trench. Initially the AI Russian player had two squads in the trench. Heavy fire and assault by several squads managed to kill at least one squad. I was able to move one of my squads into the left half of the trench. I thought I managed to clear the other side, and this probably did happen, as I was then able to move a second squad into the trench. As it only holds 2 squads, I don't think I would have been able to move into it if there had still been Russian troops in the other part of the trench.

The trench position took fire and suddenly the one squad was no longer there, having been suppressed. I thought they were hunkered down in the trench, but they were actually about 70 meters away. This had happened in the blink of an eye. A large "?" then appeared over the trench where they had been, making me think that Soviet troops were still in that part of the trench. Somehow my squad had "teleported" quite some distance away from the trench.

Thinking I had missed something or it might be an anomaly of some sort, I was able to move another squad into the trench were the first squad had previously been.

This is what the first screen shot captures. Pz Grenadier 43/4 is in the right side of the trench. They are highlighted in the blue brackets. Note the time of the screen shot, 39:37.38.

Evidently it appears they took suppressive fire from the trench line that is nearby. Suddenly they too were "teleported" away, approximately 70 meters, ending up behind the Tiger that is along the road. They are still highlighted in blue.

The time on the screenshot is now 39:37.75. In hundredths of a second they managed to make it 70 meters away, which would have easily earned them gold in the 1936 Munich Olympics. The screenshot notes they are suppressed, so they evidently took fire to get them to this state. I took the screen shots at half speed and as soon as I noticed they were no longer in the trench. It was very quick.

Question 1 is would they have been attacked by any enemies in the trench that had not been vacated? I would think you couldn't enter the trench if two squads were in it already, even if one of the two was friendly.

Question 2 is, is this normal for the game play? It took a while for me to figure out where the squad had been moved to, as I thought they were hunkered down in the trench. It occurs to me that if they were suppressed, wouldn't they hide in the trench instead of rushing 70 meters away and into the open? Is this a matter that needs to be addressed in the infantry game that is being worked on for the future?

Any explanations would be appreciated. It didn't detract from the game but I did think it a little odd.

I have never seen anything like this and it is not explainable.

In the first shot they are in a house icon, for the trench, in the second a tree icon for trees or other cover.

The code was set to have a unit dismount to the spot where it mounted a whatever. Surely you did not mount the trench from where they are in the second shot. If they were suppressed to the point of dismounting, they should be placed at the point where they previously mounted the trench.

heinrich,

Like Paul, I don't have a good explanation. My first thought was that they wre involved in a close combat with russian in the trench and that resulted in them being suppressed and expelled from the trench. But 70m seems pretty far, and I don't see any russian units in that location, though I do see at least some bodies that I assume were from russian unit?

Looks like something that will need to be looked at for the improved infantry model in next game.

thanks
Rick

Mobius -> RE: Assistance on Mysterious Gameplay (1/5/2012 4:44:07 AM)

Heinrich55, was this the latest patch? Because, I had found a bug where troops which start mounted on a halftrack and move with the halftrack to a place where they can dismount and immediately mount can sometimes be suppressed from the mount and teleport right next to the back of their transport unit. This was fixed as far as I can tell in the latest patch.

So if those units that jump the 70 meters to be next to the tank, the tank may have transported them.

Do you have a save game file of that turn?

Good Hunting.

Guys,
I think Mobius has the answer. I have not patched with any of the available betas, as I was waiting for the official patch.

It sounds like this was caught and corrected in the beta releases since the game was released. Sorry about that. I should have caught it. It is quite possible that the squad was transported at some point by the Tiger. Good thing it was only 70 meters away or those guys would have really been fatigued, ha ha.

MR, I didn't save that game turn - I only took the screen shots and then forgot and hit continue without saving that particular turn.

I think that solves the mystery. I should have patched it but haven't yet. Thanks for the help on this.

By the way, Mobius, it is a cool scenario from either side - I am sure you recognized it. I am trying to get far enough as German to engage the SU-152s but my losses keep ending the game before I have a chance to crack them open. I am trying yet again but the Russians are extremely tough in this one.
