dwawilson -> Three Questions (1/9/2012 3:48:19 PM)

I received the game for Christmas. I played a couple of games with the base package and decided to buy the expansions. After a few games I have some question. 1. Is there some way to help the colonies grow? In one of my games after about 50 years I had 10 colonies. A number of the colonies had been settled early in the game. The total population of my home planet was 16 billion. The total population of the colonies was 500 million. At this rate it would take hundreds of years to make the colonies viable. 2. How do you take an enemy's home world? After a prolonged war I had taken all the ememy's planets except his home world. I collected all my remaining troops and dropped them on his home world. I had 7 transports with 5 troops each, I barely out numbered his troops. However he had a huge number of militia that added to the forces. To overcome the troops I probably needed at least twice what I had. To overcome the troops and militia I would have needed 5 - 10 times what I had. That would have been 175 - 350 troops. Is that normal? 3. What is a good set of victory conditions? I have been using a combination of economy, population, and territory. The economy and territory are no problem, but I have not been able to achieve much in population. Thanks for any input you can provide.
