I think the 8 days running missions CAP may be the key, my opponents have not gone that deep for that long, so never accounted for that. I think you timed it right.

Well done. The question is what harm did you actually do? The fact you had leakers that potentially damaged CVLs is definitely a psychological impact. Will read with interest.

What were the losses on your strike on the Jap CVLs? What was the cost in a/c and pilots?

My experience has been I expend about 2/3 of the a/c in losses and net nothing (40-50 fighters lost at least with 70 of 130 A/c gone and another 30 damaged) against a 3 CV equivalent. You got some leakers. Any good tactical advice for getting through the Japanese ubercap with buffaloes, stringbags and PBYs?

I set all the aircraft at Batavia to be in the ML-KMIL command with Tinker as commander. He is 73 Air 60 admin and 67 agress. I am trying to kept as many air units as possibe in the same command as possible. In Sinapore to start the air units are between the RAF 223 and 224. It cost OPs to change, but I am seeing if this is going to gain some better results.

I don't think I quite answer your question denisonh, But now in Batavia are all the buffaloes and Malaya bombers, we will see if they can go against the Soryu and Hiryu.

denisonh -> RE: Racing the Sunrise: RA 4.0 --The Allied side (2/10/2012 12:33:40 AM)

Actually, you have. Never looked at the commands assigned. Food for thought.

Look forward to the next round.[:)]

AdmNelson -> RE: Racing the Sunrise: RA 4.0 --The Allied side (2/10/2012 12:34:24 AM)

I am sure one one of the CVLS is sunk or will not make it back-- The Shoho had an fuel explosion.

John's note to me was "have to adjust plans" --psychological impact works for me.

denisonh -> RE: Racing the Sunrise: RA 4.0 --The Allied side (2/10/2012 12:37:59 AM)

The Doolittle raid worked the psychological angle in RL. Certainly has an impact.........

KB1 and KB2 a long way from the Banda Sea. KB2 will have to move past Soerabaja where the Dutch and Malaya Air Forces are if it wants to engage the Lexington. Probably 4 days away from the Banda Sea.

CVE Hoshu and what looks like two CSs have a surprise coming and it is not the Lexington.

Central Pacific -- can expect the Midway landings in two more days. SBDs set to range 3

Dec 24

DEI -- Eastern
Hiryu plus CVL making run north of Soerabja. Dutch air strke weak( I wasn't all that set for a run).

Banda Sea.
Kendari falls and Lexington is retiring, maybe all the way back to Townsville. Especially with the Hiryu racing towards Banda Sea.

Solomons--Us CA and Austrailia cruisers are now trailing transports headed to Lunga

Midway-- Hold on the first assaut. 34th Combat Engineers have made the difference

61st Naval Guard Unit

khyberbill -> RE: Midway and the 34th (2/15/2012 10:05:56 PM)

John will be back to Midway. He doesn't like to being thwarted this early in the game. Next time he will bring two divisions!

Good I will be ready

BigBadWolf -> RE: Midway and the 34th (2/15/2012 10:09:09 PM)

Well, it's not a full division, more of a brigade in game terms, but we don't like to talk about it :)

Anyway, you are right, I would be chewing my monitor right now if I was John.

AdmNelson -> Christmas (2/16/2012 9:25:55 PM)

Dec 25

Central Pacific--
Midway-- After all the combat assaults yesterday. The defenders woke up to the sound waves lapping at the shore. The Japanese had withdrawn over night.

Solomons--

CA Canberra, CL Achilles, CL Perth ran into a Amph TF near Lunga, heavily damaged 5 AKs and sunk one PB. They are running back to Truk and I going to let them go.

Rabaul -- a couple of IJN BBs bombarded. So I will send most of the CAs in the area there.

DEI-- Quite

I am still looking for CVE Hohsu south of Java

AdmNelson -> RE: Christmas (2/18/2012 5:13:22 AM)

Dec 26

DEI-- 4th Inf Div lands at Merak

Hiryu slips into the Indian Ocean east of Soerabaja. Will she go east or west. East is towards where the Lexington is. west is towards Cocos Islands ??????

Lost track of the Hoshu, I believe it is headed in the direction of the Cocos Islands, and sure enough she shows up and puts two bombs into the British Dauntless from Vals. I have transports unloading 6 brigades of Indian and British inf. I might have unloaded too much there --will be slightly needing more supplies. I will have to take care of that.

AdmNelson -> New CV on the scene (2/18/2012 5:27:06 AM)

Dec 27.

DEI-- 4th division captures Merak

Find the Hoshu and Taiyo north of the Cocos Islands

SBD airgroups from the Enterprise launch a surprise airstrike on the Hoshu and Taiyo

Oh yes the Enterprise is on the scene. This is probably a BIG surprise for John

CVE Taiyo, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires didn't know there was another CVE in this TF till the strike
CVE Hosho, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires
CL Yura, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires

Now we need to know where the Hiryu went. The Enterprise is about 3 days ahead of her if she is headed towards the Cocos Islands. It is probably time to move the Enterprise to safe location, but where?

you can only station 30k troops here. I usually get enough from Dutch units to fill up the place.

It is Dec 27th and John has already landed in Java. I didn't expect it to happen so fast. I am using as many OP points as I can in some other areas. I guess I could use air transport. Right now the air transports are ferrying avation units, and HQs. I believe Java will only last another three weeks

khyberbill -> RE: Christmas (2/20/2012 12:21:26 PM)

He does move fast, he wants to secure his oil fast. Then he will drive onto Northern Oz. John cant stop once he gets going into a particular direction.

AdmNelson -> May 1942 (7/13/2012 8:33:33 PM)

I wll am going to get back on this AAR--

I have been very busy, plus there seams to be Japanese all over Austrailia.

May 7, 1942

Three divisions were caught north of Alice Springs trying to reinforce Darwin. THen the hammer fell in March with Japanese landing on both east and west coasts of Austrailia. There are probably close to 10-15 Japanese divisions plus assets in Austrailia right now.

I have been busy on placing reinforcements in the pipeline, including the invasion forces released because of the Japanese landing. Where to go with them?

Cocos Isalnd is Allied with over 300av. One Japanese landing throw back in to the sea.
Noumea has fallen and Suva is a Allied stronghold. 500av and 250ac

In the last week a lone US CV raided all the way to Pagan( surprised John on that).

I will continue to update. Ideas are welcome.

khyberbill -> RE: May 1942 (7/15/2012 10:42:27 PM)

No takers yet. Perhaps everyone is also reading John's AAR and can not comment.

Can you take Koepang and thus support your troops isolated in Northern Oz?
