Just place your troops near them, and they'll get extra bullets. Usefull with rocket artillery (which has no ammo after 1-2 bombings) and Soviet late tanks which don't have so many AP shells.

I think there's even a higher rate of reloading if you place the ammotruck in the same hex as the unit ------------------ _______________________ Thornado - You'll never know what hit you - [This message has been edited by Thornado (edited January 15, 2001).]

OK, thanks, now I understand the part about a uint being on or beside the Ammo. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, if I have a tank thats out of say AP ammo and I pull it onto an ammo dump or truck how long does it take to reload the tank? Can it shoot while its reloading? Does this work for Infantry with thier antitank weapons? Commander Klank

BlitzSS -> (1/16/2001 1:22:00 AM)

Good question! The rate of reloading depends on the size of the ammo. I think he can shoot while reloading but can not be shot at. Is it that you can be next to an ammo truck, but have to be on an ammo depo?

BlitzSS -> (1/16/2001 1:26:00 AM)

Ammo trucks are one heck of a quartermaster. They carry it all.

AmmoSgt -> (1/16/2001 4:13:00 AM)

That one truck (it ain't actually one truck ) comes loaded with the ammo that the units supported use.. back at the ammo dump we keep records on each unit ...what they use how much a particular unit has used in the past if it has a combat reecord if it doeesn't we have the averages for all units of that type we have it all prepackaged on the units own special ammo pad on pallets our R/T forks are ready to load it we load it in the sequence it is most likely used ..we dispatch the trucks automatically to support expected usage rates ..we have standby's to fill in if trucks get destroyed or if we get emergency calls for ammo ..we steal more trucks if we(((uh))) we appropiate more trucks if we need to and we make house calls .. read some stuff about the Red Ball express.. U S Ordnance when we discovered in WW2 that US army units were capturing and using german 88's in large numbers sent special teams out to "aquire" suffcient 88 ammo to support the troops this inculded demo teams to remove hazzards at german ammo dumps and inspectors to insure ammo was serviceable ..maybe you noticed but i am kinda proud of U S Army Ordnance .. In Italy when all the 155mm Hows burned out their barrels and there were no more to be had we got spare 8" naval gun barrels and adapted them to 155 gun carrages and supplied the right ammo so arty could contiune on time and on target ...I sure do wish i still had access to the compleat Offical History of the U S Army Ordnance Corp... but that and many memories are back at the unit ....

Naw, come on AmmoSgt, you're pulling are legs No truthfully it so great to hear these stories.

ursus -> (1/24/2001 7:13:00 AM)

you can be next to a ammo dump or ammo truck and get resupplied, I believe it takes one full turn. I do not know if you can shoot and still resupply or be shot by the enemy and get resuppied.

LeibstandartePzD -> (1/24/2001 7:43:00 AM)

I have to hand it to the US Army ammo guys, they go through hell sometimes to keep a tank unit supplied. Without them and the fuelers tanks would be dead in the water so to speak. Armor units burn tons of both ammo and fuel. I remember one incident of our Support Platoon NCOIC driving in an unarmored HUMMV up to our positions under fire to deliver small arms ammo to us. Hell of a guy he was. From a Combat Arms guy I say thanks to all the support personnal who go through hell to get us what we need. ------------------ Former member of the 8th US cavalry and a grandson of a Leibstandarte tanker. Really? I wish I had known that yesterday.. Now my 25pdrs are running out of HE-ammo (PBEM-game, Tunisia 1943) & I'm wondering why my precious ammo trucks wont transfer enough shells to guns....I gotta try that, thanks and little from game mechanics point of view: Why ammo trucks wont blow up like ammo dumps? Now you dont have to worry about anything when some aircraft happens to blow up your ammo truck which is sitting right in the same hex as your units. After all, ammo trucks (and dumps) were pretty sensitive to ground fire and air attacks in real life (WWII that is) (And I wish they would boost up that ammo dump explosion as well, now it works like a new year firecracker..)

skukko -> (1/24/2001 6:42:00 PM)

This has been said before I believe, -ammoload is not filled after one turns sitting beside the truck/dump. It takes few turns to load fully. ( Tiger E from zero shells to full load =5 to 6 turns.) If game continues over a 20 turns, you should think that reinforments could save your day. Tanks and mortars are usually out of ammo by that point. You can also drive those useless units thru retirement hex. Tip of the day: Buy ammodump/-trucks and put your tankcompany On it at deploy phase. When turn one begins your tankcompany is full loaded. Can offcourse be used to infantry, as well to guns. Just hope that arty don't hit that hex... mosh

Hmm...I just tested and it does not increase loading rate from ammo trucks. (25 pdr guns were getting same 2 rounds per turn..) But if you put two trucks instead of one, it doubles it to four...I just does not help. They fire 5 rounds per arty-strike.... Oh well....
