I'm just wondering if any of the powers used canister rounds in their 20mm weapons. It would seem to make sense to do so. A 234 armoured car is fired upon, the commander sees a muzzle flash or two, and quickly sprays a storm of shot at the source, without having to aim for individual points to fire upon. It would seem to make sense, or am a little slow, and this has already been modelled ? A smoothbore would be even better... but anyway, anybody got any info ?

Not sure on 20mm I do know USMC used canister rounds in 37 mm guns thru in the pacfic.

Canister in an autocannon is kind of unnessasary do to the volume of fire, a canister round doesn't have that much spread anyway. The 37 canister was for the AT gun, it made sense for that because it was a slow fire weapon. HTH Haupt

It may have been for the AT gun; but it was the Stuarts that used them. I've seen two sources which held that the Marines kept the light tanks around longer than they had to just for the sake of the cannister round (which was apparantly useful in jungle fighting). Granted, both of these are Army sources...but they might be right anyway.

Oooh a BIG shotgun. ;-) the Germans had a 'grape' shot for the 75mm Pak guns.

I was referring to the 37mm AT gun wich was also on the stuarts and greyhounds as compared to the 37mm Autocannon
