Arcatus Actual Resources

What is Caslon?
And how can fur from a Dantha be found on so many planets? Does Danthas ride spaceships? And how are carbon fibres just found?

This is now a Work In progress for DW:Universe upgrade. so it is not yet compatible with DW:U. Sortof. More on that in the thread below.

The goal of this mod is to change all resources in the game into something a bit more realistic.

Features
=======
1) Renames several resources to actual elements. All elements in the periodic table are represented. Common elements have their own resource, while uncommon are in new “Assorted” resources.
2) Many new icons to support the new resources.
3) Luxuries are more generalized. In a diverse galaxy luxury furs can be found on many different creatures, and not only on “Danthas”.

Some of the changes:

DW, DW:RotS, DW:L and DW:S is all supported.

-.vbs files automagically updates your Gametext file. No copy and paste required!
Though changes & instructions are still in the readme... If you don't trust a script from the internet

Also new: Optional game loading text - loading text now gives a brief history of the universal events pre-game. Spoiler alert if you have not already completed the original game!

Hey that's pretty cool...
I have been working so hard on character, I have not played with this yet... [:)]

Thank you!

Chromium is a real element, why change that? Also, why did you change gold to silicon?

Aluminium has a lower atomic number, so in theory it should be more abundant - and in our society we use allot of it, so I wanted it included. Sorry Chromium.

Silicon (not included in the screen shot) is still there, but it is now very common (as it is in the known universe) and gold is rather rare - As it also is in the universe we observe today.

I have tried to be select resources with appropriate properties for the different components. Instead of crystals alkali and alkaline metals are implemented, so the crystals used in weapons can be manufactured and not simply found...

Just because it is rare on Earth, does not mean it is rare everywhere. Almost all gold available to us on Earth came from asteroids that fell down a few billion years ago. There is a lot more gold in the asteroids then there is on Earth.

In the 2,900 cubic kms of Eros, there is more aluminium, gold, silver, zinc and other base and precious metals than have ever been excavated in history or indeed, could ever be excavated from the upper layers of the Earth's crust.

That is just in one asteroid and not a very large one at that. There are thousands of asteroids out there.

Arcatus -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (2/4/2012 8:05:39 PM)

Oh, sorry, I kinda messed up my last reply...

Gold is not included in the screen-shot, but it is still a resource in my mod, and as gold is allot less abundant than Silicon in the universe, I made some changes to reflect that...

Sure, other places in the universe will have allot more gold than we do on earth, but silicon will most likely always be more abundant than gold, even the asteroid in your example will (most likely) contain lots of Silicon Oxides - also known as quartz sand. [;)]

Awaras -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (2/4/2012 8:10:25 PM)

Ah I see now. Anyway, don't mind me, great work. :)

Igard -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (2/4/2012 8:19:28 PM)

Nice work! [:)]

Awaras -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (2/4/2012 8:51:18 PM)

Installed your mod. Nice. You have two resources called "incense". Was that intentional?

Uh.. No.

Expect a bugfix shortly, Thanks :)

Arcatus -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (2/5/2012 9:49:35 AM)

Updated. Renamed one of the incenses to perfume.

Now even the Haakoonish will smell nice [;)]

Quadro7F -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (7/26/2012 5:23:50 PM)

This is excellent mod, i really like the idea. But looks like the link is broken [sm=sad-1361.gif]

Bleek -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (7/26/2012 5:46:30 PM)

Fix the link! [sm=00000734.gif]

Arcatus -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (8/2/2012 8:28:41 AM)

Ah, sorry about that.

The forum has changed since I originally uploaded the mod, so now larger files can be attached.

Version 1.2 is embedded in the first post [:)]

Changes since 1.1 is that aluminium and lithium have very different icons now - they looked kinda similar previously.

Fishers of Men -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (8/2/2012 8:19:05 PM)

Thanks for the improvement.

jpinard -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (8/25/2012 7:08:00 AM)

As a brand new player, does this change gaemplay at all? Or just fixes the names? I love the fact you used the Period Table of Elements and named stuff realistically. The names in the game are just too abstract. Also, does this work with all the expansions?

unidterror -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (11/23/2012 4:53:44 PM)

I almost just downloaded and not say anything, =D my bad. really like this mod how many resources were added extra?
Keep up the good work.

Gameplay is not changed. This only changes the names of the resources.

Yes, it should be compatible with all the expansions, but the exact lines in the config file (as described in the readme) changes a bit from version from version. It will make sense what you should overwrite, so I think you will figure it out :)

Let me know if it doesn't work out.

None. This only replaces the names of existing ones.

Martian -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (11/25/2012 1:40:39 PM)

to Arcatus

I agree with your point and like the idea of using real chemical elements.
I think it makes the gameplay more immersive.
Thank you very much for this mod.

Arcatus -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (5/27/2013 10:23:32 PM)

Bump [:D]

I could not be bothered to update the gametext.txt again so I learnt some VBscript instead.

Yea, that makes perfect sense.

Anyway; Updated the mod with the new easy installer, and added a new optional change to the loading screen.

Feedback is most welcome :)

dostillevi -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (5/29/2013 6:32:38 PM)

Arcatus, this makes your mod Shadows compatible, correct?

Fishers of Men -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (5/29/2013 8:46:32 PM)

Arcatus' mod is compatible with the original and all expansions. This new version will use a script to update the GameText file for you. But I have noticed something. After a patch has been applied to DW, the GameText file is replaced with a new version. This requires me to redo the changes each time. Has anyone noticed this?

FireLion1983 -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (5/5/2014 9:45:09 AM)

Pretty old now, but I just realized that while the readme was updated to adjust the two incenses two be perfume and incense, the actual vbs file doesn't make the proper adjustment. Follow the readme to adjust the gametext.txt file to change one to perfume. Great mod, thanks!

Tehlongone -> RE: [REL] Arcatus Actual Resources (6/12/2014 8:51:58 AM)

Will this be adapted to Universe?
