Go to the headquaters tent on the right icon bar (or type H)
the units are shown grouped by formation. Locate the unit in question, select and read the information in the window on the left of the headquarters screen. This, I think tells you the next one up the chain near the top. If all else fails, you can see it by following the formations on the right.
Generally, if the unit came as part of a Company sized formation, it will report to the co command, but if you bought it seperately it will report through the A0.
edited to point out: I looked when I got home. I'm not sure this will give you what you want either. I am still looking though.
