2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/17/2012 10:28:33 PM)

O1........Air France went in the red for the first time, dug myself out of the hole on day 4 of the month. Forgot it takes 2.6 mil or so to lease 1 damned A320-200 and dropped my cash too low. Just have to hit that magic 1-2 mil a day profit. That is when the expansion really speed up.

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 2:51:00 AM)

Your a butt head Apathetic.......you got me, I did not even realize it was you.

jomni -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 4:03:32 AM)

I guess you guys now know the reason why A320 vastly outsells the B737 in the real world. ;)

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 4:52:01 AM)

Nope, but it is a sweet plane.....in the game anyway.

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 7:26:37 AM)

in O2, just placed an order to expand my both my airfleets into another plane type: ATR-72-200.

As we are still nearly 3 game years away from the Bombardier CRJ-200LR.

Will start setting those up on some of my 660 mile and under routes, thereby allowing my Airbus A320-200s to be used elsewhere.

My cash is starting to build up more quickly now. I have A320-200s ordered out through August now for each airline. One more batch order of those; then I think I will take it up a notch and start ordering A310-300s. There are a plethora of targets to hit with that in Asia. Also, from Brazil, I can reach Spain, anywhere in the US east of the Mississippi--as far north as the southern portion Canada.

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 1:47:35 PM)

Well, O1 is going okay. Both airlines doing okay and slowly expanding. Trying to decide if I want to hang on and wait for the CRJ200 a/c for short range or go ATR for my short routes. My problem is it will take a bunch to corner those routes. They are 600+ pax routes that have 1-2 A320-200 doing 2-3 a day on them.

O2, upgrades continue to new a/c. My L1011 are next on the chopping block. Seriously thinking about buying out the A300B4 in the used bin to replace them due to lower fuel costs.

R5, both airlines stalled some waiting on new a/c and lack of empty routes. Mainly just holding what I have until the A319-100LR arrives.

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 2:45:54 PM)

To give you an example of an all prop route in O1:
KOJ-UKB
325 miles
Total pax count served: 292
31 x ATR 72-200
Total revenue: $ 91450
Total expenses (including fuel of $7068): $20,460
DoP: $70,990

I was going to use my KOJ-FUK routes as an example since the pax count is over 400, but I had 4-5 737/A320-200 on the route that I threw in because they had some spare hours left.

My strategy in Japan is to use ATRs from airports with gate fees in the $50k and under range, to any airport with the same. I should probably be able to hit about 3/4 of routes that fall into that category with the ATR. I have them on order coming in every week now. This allows me to use my Airbus A320-200 on routes over 660 miles and shorter routes where the higher gate fees on 31 flights would get excessive.

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 3:01:06 PM)

An added benefit of using the props for these routes is that the ordered planes are coming in simultaneously with my Airbuses, meaning I do not have to choose whether to use my Airbus on a short route, or on a longer route. I can move forward on both long and short routes independently of each other at the same time. It will allow me to establish and capture more routes And to do so faster.

DC Air -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 3:29:41 PM)

Hi Guys, Finally got myself registered on the forum. I will now be able to see what you are discussing plus I can add any relative thoughts/comments. DC Air

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 3:50:21 PM)

Welcome aboard DC Air.

There are a lot of little tips and tricks that you can pick up here. Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences as well.
Additionally, if you run across certain airlines that are giving you a lot of trouble, post here. This will help us determine whether they are targeting alliance members and whether we need to consider some sort of coordinated response against them.

Speedysteve -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 3:54:23 PM)

Just logging on before flying to the US in one of Brit Air's finest.

I've started a 2nd Airline in R5 - Maltese Air. Hopefully I'll have time to manage both of them. I'll request to join Matrix Boys II but just so you know it was me [:)]

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/18/2012 4:04:04 PM)

I do now. I checked AE before I came here. Found your profile. Your in.

terje439 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/19/2012 5:43:59 PM)

Sorry to say guys, but with me back at 100% work I simply do not have the time anymore to keep my airlines running. Say so if you want any of them (R5 is not doing too well imo but), if not I will let them expire.

Terje

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/19/2012 5:56:38 PM)

Not sure if I can take over an airline (in some I already have 2 and time), but before you pull the plug, could you consider maybe listing your top 10 routes for each and allowing us to slide planes in before you pull the plug?

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/19/2012 6:27:48 PM)

Just let them run until they get clobbered............all you really have to do is just log on the site and enter each airline. That will keep them active and those routes locked down until a further date. But also do as Chijohn asks. It will help us make sure we stay primary on the route.

Same as I do for Crash and Burn. It is mainly idle, but active. I enter it and that is about it.

DC Air -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/19/2012 9:32:35 PM)

Hi Guys,
Given that you are all more experienced at this than me (this only my 2nd game) I thought I would share my strategy with you and seek your comments. Basically I am trying to create 2/3 central points then operate on a "spiders web" principle. Let me explain. I am flying from FRA to VIE, ZRH, LTN, IST, AYT, DMO etc. I will then link these together - example I will then fly from VIE to ZRH, LTN to ZRH, IST to ZRH etc etc. Does this sound like a good approach???

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/19/2012 11:47:29 PM)

There are different strategies that some players follow.

There is the spider web strategy you mentioned.
Other players will operate from one central point and just send flights out sort of like the spokes on a wheel.

I prefer the spider web strategy. The advantage to this approach involves gate utilization. For example, you fly from IST to VIE, you have to rent a gate which gives you 50 slots. You may maximize the passenger volume with seven flights per week. This means you've paid for 50 slots and have only used seven leaving 43 of them unused. This is inefficient in my opinion. The spider web approach will allow you to use those slots rather than leave them unused.

Here is a strategy that I follow which is similar to the spider web:
Let's say that I am operating out of three airports in the United States: JFK, Charlotte, and Miami. Then I rent a gate at Paris and create a route from JFK to Paris. Next I will also try to create routes from Paris back to Charlotte and Miami. That way I am making better use of those slots/gates that I am leasing.

Create a route, then try to join back to as many of your current airports as possible. This will help you maximize as many of those leased gates as possible.

Based on your ranking in these two games, you're doing pretty damn well...

DC Air -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/20/2012 1:14:00 PM)

Thanks for the vote of confidence...... appreciate it

I taught him well [;)]

DC Air -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 5:32:04 PM)

Hi Guys,
I don´t know if you can help but there is this airline ¨Pzz Airways¨ which is climbing all over me. According to the rankings he is based in the US but operates out of Istanbul. Don´t understand how that can be.

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 6:27:24 PM)

What world is he in? That is important info.

Found him, he is in the O1 world, that means he can go anywhere in the world, same as you, open worlds are wide open with no restrictions. You can also operate from any airport to any airport in any country.

He probably got clobbered in the US and moved.

I cannot help you, I got clobbered in France and am being charged 7 mil bucks a month for 4 gates out of CDG. I returned 8 gates and am still being charged for them. So I basically go red every month.

Probably o1 given those details?

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 6:36:48 PM)

It was.......I found him, but due to me getting clobbered with gate costs for gates I no longer have, my growth is heavily stifled. Almost went red again on the end of the month, took me down to 300,000 cash from 22 million. Should be paying roughly 5 million in gate fees but am being charged 12 mil a month. It has cost me 30 million bucks so far.

Dixie -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 7:55:53 PM)

R5:

Looks like I'm involved in a bit of a price war with SkyBlue and Orbit. I'm holding my own though, and climbing those rankings. There's enough spare capacity in the fleet to cope with competition on most flights and I'm adding in more flights on routes with space. SkyBlue is a strange one, on some routes he's undercutting me whilst on others he's just matching the price. Orbit on the other hand is being an arse! [:D]

In other news, my OCD is not happy that my new A330s have winglets but my old ones can't get them retrofitted [:@]

In the US Ad Astra has started operations, I'm hopeful that this airline will manage to survive the first few months with the help of an elderly 767-300 ER and some long haul routes into Europe.

2ndACR -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 8:36:10 PM)

Which planes are you having trouble with?

If it is the A330-300 it is already equipped with winglets. Comes from the factory pre-equipped.

It's not a problem as such, just the fact that my planes look different now [:D] The older A330s in my fleet were built before the winglets became available so they're (comparatively) gas guzzling monsters. [:D]

Speedysteve -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 10:38:00 PM)

In due course I'd really like to take down Orbit in R5. If Maltese Air becomes big enough I'll challenge this guy full on. He's a pain on any route he's on with you.

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/21/2012 11:17:30 PM)

Agreed. Orbit is a Pain in my . . .

DC Air -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/22/2012 6:52:33 AM)

Sorry - should have mentioned O1. Anyway he seems to have gone. If I can help you at all in France just let me know

Chijohnaok2 -> RE: Airline Empire AAR (4/22/2012 6:52:43 AM)

In O1, airline United Continental is losing planes into the bin.

Has 6 plane types out of a fleet of 16. Too many for someone ranked 295th.

Fleet Information
Aircraft Type Fleet Size On Order Avg Age Avg Daily Util
Airbus A320-200 7 0.76 19.18
Boeing 737-300 2 0.17 19.57
Boeing 747-400 1 1 0.08 20.00
Boeing 757-200 1
Boeing 767-300ER 2 0.63 15.50
Bombardier Q300 4 1.21 15.43
Fleetwide 16 2 0.74 17.88

Nearly all the plane types are desirable though.
Unfortunately the one in the bin was a Bombardier Q300.
