PunkReaper -> Game Releases (2/23/2012 8:25:46 PM)

Having been away for a while I am wondering if Matrix's game release strategy has changed. Conflict of Heroes seemed to have caught people by surprise and is only getting its own forum 4-5 weeks before release. Is this the future, no more having games languishing in their development forum and instead just having a short run up to release?

I think this was a one off. I expect it was all down to Academy Games who wanted it this way rather than Matrix and WCS.

Pretty much everyone more or less knew about the game early last year when there was a call for BETA testers.

It really makes no sense for Matrix to do a game like Conflict of Heroes.
It's sure to become their number one selling title, probably of all time, and additionally be responsible for bringing in hordes of new fans as well as a resurgance of some old ones.

This will lead to the realization that games that take 5+ years to develop (And then simply have ok sales) aren't the best for business but rather conversions of plentifully available, though far simpler by comparison, board war games with ALREADY ESTABLISHED fan bases are.

It's as if they've finally figured out how to make some real money...
