A friend of mine in Japan (an older gentleman in his early 70s) says that the Yamamoto movie was well-received and is available on DVD.
He also says that his generation still has great respect for Yamamoto. As he puts it, "Yamamoto is still popular because he was wise enough to oppose war with the USA and UK, but also felt the bonds of duty" and that his resonates with older Japanese.

There's a good Chinese movie that's availible (full title) at youtube. It's about the rape of Nanking. Schindler's list type of movie, where we follow a japanese anti-hero who's part of prince Asaka's division during the capture and subsequent rape of Nanking. We also follow the German legation in Nanking. The movie title is City of Life and Death (or alternatively - Naking Nanking) and is directed by Lu Chuan. It was premiered in November 2009. It's a good movie. Horrible stuff to watch, but, if you made it through Schindler's List, then this movie is something to watch also.

Part one of eight...

Anyone knows the English title for the new Japanese movie about Yamamoto?

EDIT: Ok, so maybe the full movie has been taken down from Youtube. I don't know. Just know I saw it there a few months ago with English subtitles, yet cannot find it now... Anyway, still a good movie if you can get your hands on it...

There a movie on netflix or if you can find it about Nanking and it called "City of Life and Death" its pretty good and beware about those women getting raped in this one. Sadly the women didnt have any where to turn and hard to believe those jap soliders messing around and not paying any respect for them.

This film is showing tonight in England at 10pm ( 2200hrs) on BBC4. I think I'm going watch and see how this 'incident' is portrayed.[:(]
