I'm playing the grand campaign as the Axis and started Barbarossa in late April of 41. Captured Moscow, got to the edge of Leningrad and winter came along with literal hoards of Soviet armies. They're like the hydra, for everyone I kill 2 rise to take its place so finally I switch the USSR over to manual to take a look.

Up and down the line the Russians are 3-6 armies thick with litteral streams of new units walking toward the front and a production que stocked full of even more troops. The USSR war economy is at 243.

Is this normal? I was expecting at least another summer on the offense to sort of echo the historical war but I'm hard put to just hold my gains right now. Is the rest of the game with Russia going to be like this?

It's my opinion that the Soviets have way too many PPs, and the Germans too. But the Soviets are indeed worse.

I am currently playing a game in which both the Germans and Soviets are set to hard, which reduces their PPs by 25%. Will continue to report on how it looks as the game progresses.

Are you playing the 1.1 beta patch or the original 1.0. In the beta, each country is supposed to reach a limit on number of infantry units, at which point they get a big upkeep hit.

All these production rates and upkeep costs and penalties are moddable.

I'm playing the original 1.0, does 1.1 help with this issue?

Looks like you are in the opposite situation to the people claiming that the game as Germany is too easy.

Well its my first time through and maybe I bought too many Sub's and fighters and not enough infantry.

The Russians do have too many PP's. They reach a point where you cannot kill them faster then they are killing you. And they attrit you by causing damage faster then you can repair in russia.

A solution is to play them on hard German, hard Russian...and they are still tough. Trouble is you reach a point where you cannot advance as a line, although you can still take on any hex with air/panzer corps.

That first winter, the germans lose a lot of AP's which makes it hard to attrit the Russians to keep them down....I am awaiting the patch so I can try a few experiments with the combat tables (removing the Russian efficency penalty in early Barbarossa and replacing it with combat tables that change for the Germans and the Russians over the coarse of the war)
