McGlu -> Please Explain Docs (2/29/2012 2:56:36 AM)

I've been away from the game for a while. I just downloaded the latest update, and am not really sure which docs I'm supposed to look at to "re-learn" the game.

In the root folder of the game, there is a 72 page document entitled "what's new". Looks like it pretty much covers every single thing that changed since the game launched. Apart from having a record of these changes, this isn't very useful for me, as I'm not parsing through 72 pages of bullet points to discern what is different from the official manual. It would appear that based on the number of these updates the "official" manual would be very inaccurate. Would that be a safe assumption?

Also, I see there's a less formal looking manual in the documentation folder with [US Letter] in the name. It has a cover page that references the 1.06.03 beta that I assume is also the same version as the latest update. Does this manual incorporate all of the changes from the what's new doc? There's a section in the back that still lists pages of update data.

Does a fully updated manual incorporating all changes since the beginning exist, or am I expected to shuffle through 3 docs and cross reference the differences between then all to sort out how the current game mechanics work?

This is a mega game. Having a cohesive document to reference when questions arise would really be helpful.

Best thing to use is the US Letter document as this is the original manual plus some corrections and changes made to it. It also has at the end, a section 29 that lists all of the rule changes and data changes that have been made through the various patches. This is a little less than 30 pages long (about 1/2 are data changes which you don't really need to read). Leo (Apollo11) volunteered to maintain this document and he has been working to get the rule changes and new features into the main text of the document with the goal being a fully up to date manual. However, this is a major task and I don't know when this will be completed. We realize that it is a struggle not to have a fully up to date manual given the number of changes since the original manual was written.

Hi all,

All that you need is updated manual "WITE-Manual-[US_LETTER].pdf" ...

Features:

The document is TOC jumpable and it contains all text and pictures the original manual had plus all community sighted errors and all known "forgotten rules" that we discovered since release!

Whole document is also "section jumpable" (i.e. if you click on "See section xx.yy.zz" you would jump to that section) and you can easily go back to where you jumped from via "back button" in your PDF reader!

At the end of manual there is Addendum which contains all changes added to rules since the release - thus there is no need to have several different documents opened.

Still missing:

I hoped and thought that I will be able to finish move to proper place of all new stuff from addendum by now but that was not to be... I am still continuing my effort there... sorry for the delay guys... this is massive undertaking and no other game tried that after release (not even UV, WitP and WitP-AE)...

I too am returning to the game after a long absence. I just downloaded 1.06.04. The last patch I applied was 1.02b1.

I was very impressed to read in the updated manual all of the changes and updates to WitE that have taken place. Many thanks to the support team and all the contributors to making this a great product. Looking forward to getting back into WitE.

Cheers

Thanks for clearing that up. Will stick with Leo's manual. Though, I'm holding off printing it out. :)

Thanks for your efforts, Leo!
