galenhammond -> 1.7.0.10 - Possible troop screen bug (????) (3/2/2012 8:43:23 PM)

Hi all

I am not sure if this is a bug, or even if it has been reported before (I am more of a lurker on the forums), and admitedly I haven't really ever used the troops screen before. However, I noticed something today that seems to be quite annoying (see below).

ISSUE

I can only select one troop in the window at a time to disband, and then the list "resets" itself to the top of the list (meaning that I have to constantly scroll "back" to where I was at in order to continue disbanding troops). This can be quite cumbersome when you have almost 80 planets and you want to get rid of about half of the troops on each colony. [X(]

I expected it to be like the ships list screen, where one can select multiple ships by using the "ctrl-click" or the "shift-click" method.[8D]

BACKGROUND

In my current game my troop maintenance levels are almost as much as my military ships and bases maintenance. I left the troop automation on, but didn't set a min pop on the planets so ALL of my planets were recruiting (I am more of a casual player due my schedule - being self-employed doesn't leave tons of time to play).

So, in my infinite wisdom I thought I would go in, sort by "planet" and then use either the "ctrl-click" or the "shift-click" method to quickly and efficiently disband troops I (as emperor) felt I no longer needed but that my "advisors" had recruited. <ahem>

Once I get the troops disbanded I am going to have to "recruit" a few new advisors (of course the emperor is NEVER wrong [:D]

CONCLUSION

If anyone has a work around, or if anyone knows if this issue has been reported (and is being fixed in the upcoming beta patch), this lurker would greatly appreciate it! [:D]

Regards,
Galen

Open the colony summary screen.
Select the troops button
You now have a list of troops at the current planet, so just disband them one by one for each troop selected.

When done with the current planet, select the next colony in the list to work on its troops.

By the way, troops are one of your cheapest investments, recruiting at a rate of eight per year on home worlds and less than one per year on new colonies. It takes a LONG time to get enough troops for a war. It sounds like you have the troops needed to smash an empire or three, so why not build some super troopships and do a bit of home world invasion? One new home world will pay the expenses for a couple hundred troops or more. I never have more troops than I need for wars, even though I recruit at the maximum rate on every colony from game start onwards.

p.s. You'll need about 80-100 or more troops per home world invasion, and shields 2000+ on speed 60+ troop ships unless you destroy the spaceport. Be sure to include 15 ion defenses on the troop ships if the invaded world has giant ion cannon facilities...
