Simulation01 -> Reinstalling/Installing (3/10/2012 6:10:09 PM)

I have just un-installed and reinstalled Distant Worlds. I have all the Shakturi and Legends Expansions I wish to reinstall as well.

I have run into something peculiar though.... Upon reinstalling Distant Worlds my thinking was that I need to update to the latest release before installing the next expansion so I set about to update the base Distant Worlds however when I downloaded the update and started the process it told me that it detected Return of the Shakturi and that the update would not work with the expansion.

1. I had not yet installed Shakturi.

2. Is it correct to attempt to update each expansion before installing the next?

You don't need to do an update until everything is installed.
When I installed I didn't do any updating until I had installed the base game, RotS then Legends. At that point I applied the latest update.

1.  I have had this.  There are some files which are not automatically deleted on uninstall.  One of these indicates RotS is alreay installed.  I believe it is safe to ignore the warning but I am not certain.  Otherwise you will need to hunt around for files which were not deleted - installation folder and the folder save games etc. are stored are places to start.

2.  It is most correct to do it this way.  You can skip the earlier updates and only update legends and the game will still play fine but (at least) some content is missing, notably the icons for some of the components which were added in a RotS update.  Updating each game, however, has no drawbacks as far as I know.  [:)]

Thanks guys. Due to the message I mentioned above I decided to wait and update after installing both expansions..... so far I have not had any crashes or problems.
