Max 86 -> RE: What Book Are You Reading at the moment? (3/13/2012 6:55:48 PM)

I find Ambrose an easy and enjoyable read. This is his third book I have read and usually some part of it will pique my interest enough to due further research. In the "Which tank is better" discussion, Ambrose pointed out that the US Armor warfare doctrine was inherently different than the Germans, basically use numbers and speed on the open French countryside. This led to the Sherman tank. Along the same lines, that is one reason the US bogged down in the Hedgerows, no heavy equipment. I knew that Kurt Vonnegut was in the Army but did not know he was captured in the Bulge and shipped off to POW camp in eastern Germany. I believe he was with the 106th ID? I like C. Ryan too. Some people can just tell a great story. He is one.
