ancient doctor -> german squads (3/15/2012 8:38:21 AM)

Since I don't know how the numbers in the editor for squads are made I have the following question:
imagine a late war German squad of 10 troops armed with MP44 assault rifles plus one GPMG either mg 34 or mg 42,a rifle with scope either the kar98 or the G43 plus some AT weapons like panzerfaust or one panzerschreck. How would the above translate to editor numbers?

Depends on how you rate an Mp44

Bolt Action is c 0.5
SMG/Assault Rifle c 1

I would say 8 x MP44 = 8
MG 34 or 42 making this up probably about 12 assuming its top of the range for LMG's

So that would be a baseline of 20 for the squad itself.

It then depends how you allocate SA rating for a panzerfaust if any it would mostly be in HA and and what allocation you give for company and bn level weapons not given individual reatings.

ie. if a company has 2 MG42's not allocated to a squad or a flamethrower or some company level 2" morters you would need to allocate them proportionally across all the squads in the Coy/Bn.

basically you need to look at a whole Bn take in all the support weapons and split them out across the squads in the Bn.

Often its bn or coy level assets that provide a large proportion of the firepower

Question is would there be a late war squad armed this way. That is a lot pf MP44s for a single squad to have. Would this be a pretty rare unit considering the availability of this weapon.

What I have been able to reverse-engineer:
LMG is rated around 9 points. More for belt feeded, so MG42 will be better.
Bolt action is worth around 0.5
Semi-automatic around 1
SMG 2 or more
Assault Rifle is NOT SMG, it will be more like BAR, which is rated at 4-5

AT weapon seems to give around half of its penetration as Hard Attack, but Panzerfaust is light enough to take several per squad, so easily Hard Attack over 100.

And, as Andy Mac said, you have to incorporate extra light mortars, and support weapon from company.

Yup, no such organization. Most importantly, Rifles are carried for Grenade Launchers, not scopes.
Closest will be 1944 Volks Grenadiere TOE, but they used actually 3 types of squads in company:
-old Infanterie
-Sturm squad, with only automatic weapons, and NO LMG
-LMG squad, with 2 MG42

So either Division would have 3 different squads, or their strength should be added, and then divided to make an "average squad"

Does this means SMG effectivness is considered double of bolt action, isn't that a bit too much?

Didn't Churchill decide against fully auto squad personal weapons due to their exceedingly high ammo consumption rate? How does this "feed" into the argument?

I was the person who devised the weapon effictiveness structure. I used the results of US, USSR, Chinese, Belgian, Nato relativity studies from the 1940s/50s using the actual War-II weapons. You have problems, then speak to me. Righteous people will always get an honest answer in response to a pm.
