Rosberg getting ready to win again.

I do not think you can understate the importance of this race.

So many times in the F1 past (remember those days when reliability really sucked) a driver would win the World Championship and then, the following season, would actually drive even better - only for lady luck to desert him.

My fear is that is what Lewis is facing this season. Monaco was just a shocker whichever way you look at it and coming on the back of the "polegate" injustice of 2014 - perceived or otherwise - then its going to be eating away at Lewis. He simply took Rosberg apart that weekend - 20+ second gap in the same car at Monaco!!!!

Lets face it, if there is one circuit on which Lewis blows the pants off everyone then its Canada. But if he does not win here - for any reason - then I think the serenity and assuredness in evidence so far in 2015 could well crumble. He is such an emotional, heart on sleeve character.

Let's hope not.

No need to thank me Warspite, I fixed your last quote for you since I seen you made a minor mistake with it. [;)]

Happens to the best of us sir.[8D]

LEWIS!!!!!

Jagdtiger14 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/8/2015 8:08:52 PM)

Damn Hamilton! Rosberg has to win all of Europe now...unless Hamilton has an accident or two.

Jagdtiger14 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/9/2015 10:53:00 PM)

Looks like Hamilton might get a penalty for his engineer communicating during the race the situation on his team mate. Rosberg asked for the same info on Hamilton later and was denied.

warspite1 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/10/2015 5:45:52 PM)

Where did that come from?

Jagdtiger14 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/10/2015 6:24:35 PM)

Its on a couple of sites now, but the original site I read that talked about the possibility of a penalty I didn't save and cant find at the moment (it was within Yahoo news links). You can read about Wolff/Mercedes/Rosberg response at: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns30192.html

Essentially: During the later stages of the race Hamilton's engineer Peter Bonnington told Hamilton that Rosberg had no problems with fuel, but that Rosberg's brakes were critical. When Rosberg asked about the state of Hamilton's car, his engineer Tony Ross replied he was not allowed to answer due to the radio coaching ban, Rosberg replied "ugh".

warspite1 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/10/2015 7:16:59 PM)

Okay thanks. I didn't see anything on the F1 website or Sky or the BBC so am hoping its something and nothing.

There are too many rules in F1 at the moment that penalise the driver for stuff outside their control: Gearbox and Engine changes being two of the most contentious. Why penalise the driver for that?

We don't need another. Lewis may have asked but his engineer should have known, like Rosberg's knew, what was and wasn't allowed.

Therefore if anyone loses out it should be the constructor points not the driver.

60 years ago today - the world's worst Motor Racing accident.

Here is the story.

This was sixty years ago but the whole event was like it could have taken place on Mars compared to now.

Can you imagine the race continuing now? The Mercedes team had to track down directors of the company from all over Europe to get permission to pull out.

How could anyone in the vicinity say "they didn't know how bad it was"?

warspite1 -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (6/21/2015 7:34:17 AM)

Strange end to qualifying. Lewis spins off to hand pole to Rosberg who promptly..... spins off, handing pole to Lewis...

That's 7 out of 8 so far. Keep it up Lewis [:)]

Raining here in London - but it looks like it's going to be a dry race at Silverstone this afternoon. Shame, that could have mixed things up a bit....

british exil -> RE: New Grand Prix Season Is Almost Upon Us!!! (7/5/2015 4:27:32 PM)

What a race!!!

Great first half with Williams and Mercedes.

Great the way Hamilton finished the first stint with the pit stop. Rosberg was very unlucky to come out a few secs too late.

Thought that Hamilton messed things up when he came in to change tyres, just as Rosberg was applying the pressure. (Had to leave the room, to take of little son. Thought it was a Monaco deja vu).

Was very surprised to find Vettel in third as I came back. Shame for Williams, they did deserve the Podium.

All in all, the best race all season, loved the way the crowds cheered during the race. I must visit Silverstone someday for a F1 race. The best place to enjoy motor racing.

Nice win for Lewis.

Mat

What do they say? Careful for what you wish for....

There was Lewis, controlling the race nicely, with Nico unable to get beyond 4th because of the similarly powered Williams, and.....

...the rain decides to make its presence known and throws the race into turmoil.

Fortunately it all worked out but damn, my frail heart doesn't need that kind of excitement......

My hands were trembling, nearly threw the remote away when Hamilton came in for tyres that second time. Did not realize it was for intermediates. I thought the track was drying out and Raikkonen having difficulty with his tyres.

I thought he had blown his win, again!!!

While I am definitely NOT a fan of Lewis Hamilton - or of Toto Wolf and Niki Lauda for that matter - I must say this was a WELL deserved win by Hamilton - hats of to the driver and to the excellent strategy, whoever decided on it.

The performance of the Williams team gives hope for the rest of the season, for some more exciting - the Performance on the race-course, that is. I think Williams could have donebetter, but simply screwed it, tactically.

I just read an interesting take on what happened at the start of the Austrian Grand Prix.

From the BBC:

Austria a turning point?

At this point, it is worth rewinding the clock two weeks to Austria. There is no doubt Rosberg had a pace advantage over Hamilton there, but equally there was no doubt that the race turned on the start.

Hamilton, starting from pole, was not as fast off the line as his team-mate, lost the lead and from then on had it all to do.

At the time, it looked like a mistake by Hamilton, but in fact it was anything but. He was slightly late in dropping his clutch but that was because he was managing a very tricky problem.

There was a fault with his engine, which was not responding to his foot on the throttle. It meant Hamilton had to guess the correct position to hold the throttle for the start, and hope for the best. Incredibly, he got it almost right.

Mercedes replicated the problem with Rosberg at the subsequent test and he could not get the car off the line without stalling, despite trying several times. Hamilton had in fact, Mercedes executive director (technical) Paddy Lowe said, done "an amazing job" to do the start he did.

That feat demonstrated Hamilton's remarkable feel for the capabilities of a grand prix car in changing circumstances, an ability that comes to the fore on that crucial final lap in qualifying, especially in the sort of gusting winds that were blowing at Silverstone on Saturday. Or, as was the case on Sunday, in racing situations, or when it rains mid-race.

Yes, RIP Jules.

Kind of shocked to be honest, brings back memories of 21 years ago with Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna.

It's helped that a lot of safety changes have been made since then but its still been a lucky 2 decades. There have been numerous 'close' calls. Maybe this is a wake up call and its time to change the formula again and have enclosed cockpits?
