7 Sept 1942 SOPAC As anticipated, a BB force sneaks into Koumac under the cover of darkness and pounds it. Interestingly Kirishima and Kongo part of the group, gives me hope that I really put the hurt on KB. Night Naval bombardment of Koumac at 113,156 Allied aircraft losses Vincent I: 3 damaged Japanese Ships BB Yamashiro BB Nagato BB Kirishima BB Kongo Allied ground losses: 136 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 13 disabled Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled Vehicles lost 4 (1 destroyed, 3 disabled) Airbase hits 7 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 20 Port hits 3 E8N2 Dave acting as spotter for BB Yamashiro BB Yamashiro firing at Koumac BB Nagato firing at 2nd Marine Division BB Kirishima firing at 2nd Marine Division BB Kongo firing at Koumac In the morning a coordinated strike by 40 Forts closes Efate airfield once and for all, the port looks busy with ships and the B-17s will switch to port attack for the next turn. For good measure, 2 SAGs will sortie from Noumea and bombard it in the night phase. Recon shows some light forces there so I hope to scalp a few DDs in the process. Of course, there was also the time 3 old IJN DDs got past Wasp's screen and sank her... Fingers crossed.

8 September 1942 SOPAC 2 SAGS with orders to bombard Efate glide in under a moonless night to be met by 2 squadrons of IJN DDs. By the time North Carolina and her consorts line up to bombard the target half of the opposing DDs are burning or sinking, given the fact radar didn't play a part in detecting the enemy TFs and a near moonless night to boot I think the Allies dodged a bullet here. Daylight comes and there's heart stopping moment as the BB is still anchored off Efate, fortunately the skies are clear and the Allied TFs retreat to Noumea in good order with a half dozen ships damaged to varying degrees but no losses sustained by the Allies. 9 Sep 1942 SOPAC B-17s continue bombing of Efate port but bad weather hampers their effectiveness. It also seems that the port has been emptied of ships, there's a TF that is heading NW from out of Efate and I'm assuming these are the cripples that were hiding out there. Am sending a 4 DD squadron from Tanna and PT boats from Luganville to have a look. Stacking limits means no more million man stacks on islands closer to the front lines, which is probably not a bad thing considering CTG is not afraid of taking risks with his assets.

Heyo Roel, Not updating anymore, our turn rate is erratic, we can go a whole week with just 1 turn sometimes. That and my play style doesn't seem to lend itself to much commentary (can't decide if that's good or bad) so I kinda left it to die. PS. Just caught up with your latest foray, much ouch you have been inflicted with. Will be following with some interest!
