fflaguna -> Any issues with sharing WitP:AE with a friend? (3/25/2012 5:35:12 AM)

I'm looking for a real-life friend to play a serious campaign with. Are there any issues with sharing my installation and key with a trusted friend, either technical (DRM) or moral?

Thanks. ;)

Yes. Buy your friend a copy or let him buy his own. All of us that play PBM each have our own copy.

Yeah- basically each install is a separate licence. Although there's nothing stopping you doing it you shouldn't. At the end of the day if you're going to get into a PBEM- the game will give you cheaper entertainment on a $/hr basis of anything else except a woodens stick.

I really can't believe you ask this question. I will not elaborate further to avoid flaming you.

There are a lot of people who aren't going to shell out $85 for a game they have never played before, let alone never heard of except from one grognard friend. I'm surprised you're so shocked by the thought of someone considering sharing a purchased game with a real-life friend. It can't possibly be that unreasonable of a thing to do.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who replied. :)

Yes, and some people refuse to pay $1000 for a new computer, especially when they can steal their neighbors.

What you are suggesting is theft, plan and simple. Apparently you think it is theft as well or else you would not have asked the forum.

Why not play against your friend Head to Head on your (legal) copy on your computer. If he likes it he will no doubt buy a copy to play PBEM

Neat suggestion Bill.

+1 and play two or three turns not for competition, but to show how the game works to bridge the steep learning curve. ..

Then Matrix games gets revenue that encorages them to invest ...invest in fixing all the little things we complain about in this forum ...[;)]

I personally think getting a taste of a game before buying it is proper. That's why I like demos. Of course, extensive reviews and AARs can give you a feel.

In this case, I've played the series since PacWar so Matrix had me at "WITP:AE will be released."

Good suggestion, Bill.

Cheers,
CC

I knew head to head was there for some reason - personally I can't ignore what I thought five minutes ago if playing against myself

Cool, I got it. Thanks again for the civil feedback. :)

And to reiterate what has been said many times before: if you decide this game is your cup of tea, you could pay $500 for it and it would still be the cheapest entertainment, per hour, that you will ever experience.

AntoniChmielowski -> RE: Any issues with sharing WitP:AE with a friend? (4/7/2012 5:51:37 PM)

I bought the original WiTP when it was first released, then when AE was released thought I am NOT going to pay £x straight away.

So I waited a while till the Xmas sale last year and bought it then.

Remember if pirate copies are used the developer has no funds coming in to improve the game or release new titles and the company folds.
