How is the interface in this Achtung Panzer edition? I have an older Achtung I believe it's by Paradox, and the options in the interface are horrible to manage.

junk2drive -> RE: Interface? (3/25/2012 6:11:21 PM)

We need Erik to do an AAR while explaining all the controls.

LarryP -> RE: Interface? (3/25/2012 6:14:43 PM)

Junk2drive; Do you have this game?

The pictures I've seen look like the same kind of controls as my older Achtung. That's not good.

junk2drive -> RE: Interface? (3/25/2012 6:24:30 PM)

No, I don't have either one. I'm too old for real time.

With APOS you click a unit and then press space it then pops up with a list of commands and good selection to, far simpler. I think with AP people thought there was more to the UI and commands than there actually was, it was very basic to be honest, just the icon may not have been clear. With APOS as I said the commands come up written down, commands were all familiar with.

Seriously isn't that difficult. If people can learn the ins and outs of WITE and WITP etc they can easily work the UI out.

As for realtime. As you all know I hate it. HOWEVER with this game the pace is so slow and the unit's manageable and the maps huge I actually find CMBN in WEGO can be more confusing!

oh it also has loads of pause settings, which I use, so whenever something happens game pauses, click on the event and your taken to it, and there are loads of options.

Realtime is in no way a problem with this game. From an RTS hater it's a non issue.

Wodin, good post and thank you very much. [&o] One other question I have and should have asked before, tooltips. Are there tooltips to explain what the weird looking icons are? Any at all? [&:] [:)]

apd1004 -> RE: Interface? (3/26/2012 10:33:41 AM)

Yes there are tool tips for just about everything you can click on. The game has much improved over the original version AP:K. There is also a "tactical guide" you can download from Graviteam that is basically a different version of the manual, not sure if it is included in the Matrix version or not. The tactical guide is written for Steel Armor Blaze of War, but they use the same engine. Just ignore references to M60A1's and T62's.

wodin -> RE: Interface? (3/26/2012 11:15:57 AM)

yeah tool tips a plenty. First play in tutorial mode which explains each icon aswell. As above download the recent tactical manual.

LarryP I'm not saying you going to breeze it, I am saying it soon becomes apparent what is what. Again the spacebar command mechanic is a godsend.

The new Arty compared to APK I nee dto learn as it's abit more complicated though. I ended up firing loads of Arty on my own troops first time around.

I am too old as well but this isn't like RTS to me. The options allow you to set for a pause if you want and or go to the action if you want so you don't have to miss anything. You can also pause at anytime and give orders.

Thank you for the reply, you answered my question very well. I downloaded the link above. Thanks for that too. [&o]

Thanks for your reply. I will remember the space bar if I should decide to purchase this version of Achtung. Sounds like a reply to a sneeze, Achtung - achoo. Nevermind... [8|]

It's not really so much my age for disliking RTS, I never have liked it. Even when younger in my twenties I had trouble with those arcade games called Centipede and PacMan. I watched a friend that was much older than me play PacMan for hours and never get caught once by those goons. I just prefer TBS as I like to plan and check all my options without being timed. Of course, older age has not helped any either. I'm almost 57. [X(]

Redmarkus5 -> RE: Interface? (3/26/2012 6:08:11 PM)

This isn't really an RTS game - I hate that also. You can pause as often as you like, so you can go make coffee while you consider your next set of orders.

Cusp of 60 here...

7thcav -> RE: Interface? (3/27/2012 9:22:07 PM)

Strolled past 60 awhile back...chronologically at least, mentally the story is a little different.

milkweg -> RE: Interface? (3/28/2012 4:08:51 AM)

Most RTS games have pause and command these days. I won't buy one if it doesn't have pause and command. With pause and command they are actually better than TB because you can pause if your commands are not working out how you like and change them. In TB your decision is final.

apd1004 -> RE: Interface? (3/28/2012 10:44:16 AM)

Second that, milkweg. Nothing like a tank taking fire 5 seconds into a WEGO turn and you have to wait 55 more seconds to interact with it, while in the meantime it just sits there and takes the fire. Even in pause and command real time, not much you can do once rounds start hitting your tank but at least it makes me feel better.

Like Jack Benny, I have been 36 for many years - OK, most of you are too young to remember Jack Benny, so let us just say that I remember the day that WW2 ended...[X(]
