Panama -> German Deceptions (3/26/2012 11:58:51 PM)

Here's something I've never heard of before.

They mocked those up for the Bulge, as part of the 150th Panzer Bde (a reinforced armored commando formation). The unit included a lot of captured American equipment and English speaking men, and was intended to capture a couple bridges over the Meuse and hold them until the main body arrived. Since the breakout never happened, the unit was instead used as a regular formation in the Malmedy area.

For a briefing, see 'Operation Greif' on Wiki.

I've read about the german sent a handful of english-speaking man with american/british equipment, riding on an american jeep. Their target was indeed the bridges. There were rumors spread that they were targetting Eisenhower himself, which i think was probably false. Most of them are captured or killed though. I think i'll re-read the book again.

But this is the first time i saw the disguised tanks. It does indeed looked like an american M10

Exactly. I had already known about soldiers dressed as Allies. But not the Panther as M-10.
