Origins used to bounce from city to city until 1994. Now it's always held in Columbus Ohio. Which makes attending tougher if you live on the West Coast.

nashvillen -> RE: Origins? (3/29/2012 3:29:18 AM)

They have moved it to a hard time to attend, I know of a group that is meeting during the historical third week of June instead of going to Origins to play the games we usually play. We are renting a room at a hotel at a major hub city and paying less overall than the usual Origins costs. Several of us play WITP:AE and expect to get some PBEM turns done (really sneaker net, with thumb drives) during this week and showing off the game we really like to play.

Speaking of conventions, anybody going to Historicon this year? Its going to be in VA this year.

Ah, young grasshopper, you have so much to learn.[;)] In my day origins was held in Baltimore on an annual basis as I think it really was the child of the Avalon Hill Company.

AH continued holding AvalonCon in Baltimore. On the heels of the release of Advanced Third Reich in '92 all of the designers and a big chunk of the playtesters (including yours truly) met there in '93 for a huge ATR tourney.

So apparently no from the forum is going......I guess there's no reason for me to go then. [:(]

zuluhour -> RE: Origins? (3/29/2012 10:34:37 PM)

That is a bad time for me. CR I remember Origins at Hopkins, man I had some fun!!

I'm not so young a grasshopper. I still have the program for the Avalon Hill-SPI softball grudge match held at the 1978 Origins at the University of Michigan. [;)]

Considering the beer and pizza fitness routine of the SPI team, am I correct in assuming that AH won?

Whoa, you may actually have trumped me. But sweet jesus, you must be old...[:D] My first tournament game was "War in the Pacific" or as they fondly called it "Dice in the Pacific."

JeffroK -> RE: Origins? (3/30/2012 8:27:22 PM)

OK, we in the outer reaches just dreamed about getting to these event. Ohio too far away, havent you traded in the Chuck wagon for an auto, whats the air fare, USD$100?

What about a "Oldest wargame" competition.

Mine was "African Campaign" by Jedko - A divisional coverage of the campaign with step loss for every unit. This company also put out Russian Campaign which was taken up by AH At a guess I bought it in 1974.

Zeta16 -> RE: Origins? (3/30/2012 10:34:42 PM)

May go, but I only play WITpAE so what would I do there.

I do fondly remember Dice in the Pacific and it's predecessor...Yahtzee at Sea. [;)]

Hi, Does Matrix still go to Origins?

bartrat -> RE: Origins? (5/10/2015 4:40:03 AM)

I normally attend, but not this year, next year will attend Origins.

Ol_Dog -> RE: Origins? (5/10/2015 3:24:17 PM)

Already have reservations for Lost Wages May 28-30, otherwise could make the trip.

Skyros -> RE: Origins? (5/10/2015 9:24:16 PM)

Have not been to origins since the late eig notices when I used to play the Europa series. Would be fun if I could make it. Will be in Chattanooga that weekend.

alesha93 -> RE: Origins? (5/11/2015 5:10:55 PM)

Yes indeed. I like Historicon much better than Origins. I've been pouring over the listing of all the hosted games so I can sign up as soon as electronic registration opens on the 18th. Been painting figures furiously to get ready. There are hardly any WWII naval hosted games this year - bummer.

4 days of Historicon. I can't wait.

wegman58 -> RE: Origins? (5/12/2015 11:12:54 AM)

I think I went once when it was in NYC in the 1970s or 80s. ACTION STATIONS before computers in a ballroom with the developer as the referee.

Numdydar -> RE: Origins? (5/13/2015 2:23:40 AM)

Don't forget WBC Aug 1- 9 in Lancaster PA [:)] My family is spread across the US but we all still manage to go and have a great time playing our favorite games [:)]
