panzerfist -> glitch or weather (1/18/2001 9:52:00 PM)

i was playing last night a scenario that was being fought in a winter storm. during game play i noticed that some enemy fire could reach my players but when i tried to return fire the game wouldnt allow (the crosshairs would never appear). it happened a lot and at first i thought it was weather and visibility. then i noticed that other units that were farther away could fire on the enemy, but the closer units at times could not even tho they were closer and the enemy was spotted by them. i checked supression and made sure that the enemy i wanted to attack was visible by the attacking unit, but still, no dice. is this a glitch with the 4.5 version or is their some factor im not considering? thanks p/f/

Did you check if your units had line of sight to the units shooting at them? Sounds silly perhaps, but what if the fire came from some enemy unit you had not yet spotted, and you just thought it came from the visible enemy units? This is a feature, not a bug or weather related. In order to reduce the unrealistic situational awareness that a player and his units have, sometimes one unit can return fire on an enemy unit but no other units can see it. Even the firing unit can't see the icon on the board. Its a bit frustrating because when you right click to see the unit's LOS, you do not see the target so you might not know that it is there. You have to use the T key to toggle though all available targets and notice that one of them does not have an icon showing. Its real easy to miss this. I agree with Matrix's intent of limiting situational awareness. Just because one unit can see a target does not mean that all other units can identify it even if they have LOS to it. ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.

How did you check? Could it be the range setting for that part. unit didn't allow them shooting over that distance? Not shure if the crosshairs would show in that case, though. Arralen
