I like the fact it's a new game using the CC engine. Colour me interested.

I am however very wary about the future versions being 3D. It's going to be very hard to make it different enough to other 3D rts games. Serious doubts that it will feel like a CC game.

I think a new 2D engine game would have been much better.

CC in 3D will work well and maintain the option for the top down perspective that CC gamers are used to, while finally bringing CC forward in terms of its looks and interface to the 21st Century. We're not planning to throw out the baby with the bathwater here. It will be Close Combat.

Making a new 3D engine gives you all the capabilities of 2D and a lot more. A new 2D-only engine at this point would not give CC the future success we would like it to have.

I suppose the proof is in the pudding. It's just with so many 3D WW2 RTS games out there it is going to have to be something really special to stand out.

Using a 3D engine but designing the game purely from top down would be a great idea though. The issue with many 3D RTS games is when viewed from topdown you barely see enough of the battlefield, APOS does this very well though the trade off being small looking units.

I think there is no reason why you could make a game from a top down perspective that looked amazing and this hasn't been done yet.

Also I hope the pace is nice and steady like APOS and infantry don't all die in droves.

Will there be any type of world builder and any other type/types of editor that will allow people to edit the game in 3D and not have to buy expensive software just to edit the game?

We are all working together on this, so posting here is just as good as posting at Slitherine. Staff from Matrix, Slitherine and the CC development team are all involved in CC: Panthers in the Fog.

Is there any chance of you saving the graphics in a Photoshop layered format for this game for those of us who do decide to edit this game?

The amount of time saved is tremendous.

To Michael : the engine that will be used for the 3D version is the Unity enngine and guess what : there is a free tool for the terrain... unity site

Sure it will not be so easy to use as now but the results can be outstanding.As I have already written : I'm ready to begin to learn the 3D to adapt stalingrad! ;)

I don't mind learning a free program,the one for Company of Hero's is OK but the learning curve is huge.
Hopefully this one is better.
Is there Snow?

But what about Vehicles and Soldiers and Weapons?

I have not used the program but you must be able to import your own textures (as snow...)
For the rest I imagine that vehicles, soldiers, and weapons will be modelized in 3D with this program or imported from another software.

Yes, a good part of our staff is comprised of CC fans. We've been involved in all the future planning for CC and we'll continue to be involved in planning and design and development decisions. Ian explained it will be using a 3D engine but top down view. Exactly what I wanted. Superb stuff. That will keep the CC vibe but look amazing and help with LOS and multi level buildings etc etc.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Eric, all you guys deserve a hug for keeping cc alive. I know your hands were tied when you did not full rights to the game.

two questions: when and i mean guesstimation on your part would we be able see this game?
two, will the new game be mod friendly?


again, this is awesome news. I think alot of combat mission players will come back to the new cc series. This has been a wish of mine for the last 10 years.

Now this sounds great! So I assume that we can at least see some more focus on the "final" patches for the current re-releases? Personally I would love to concentrate on one re-release after the other instead of trying to do 3 at the same time.

Looking forward to a 3D version because like you I see the advantages of a game which might look like CC LSA but is indeed a 3D version so one might see terrain profile information etc.
