Cuttlefish -> BabesLite Extended Map Question (4/24/2012 7:07:56 PM)

I am trying to download Andrew Brown's extended map for use with BabesLite scenario 26b. The instructions for doing so are fairly clear, so no problem there. However, they say that the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler must be used. The problem is that every link I can find to the JSGME, either in the instructions or elsewhere on the web, is broken.

I thus have two questions: one, does anyone know what is up with that? And two, if no one does, is there a way I can download the extended map files without using JSGME?

I'm looking forward to giving this mod a try, if I can get everything working. Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone might have.

CF - I made a copy of AE for Dababes and Reluctant Admiral. I did the install just to use the extended map and did not need to do anything else. I did not use JSGME for any of it and think it is for those that want to use an install to use both stock maps and extended together. I might be wrong, but...

Not necessary to download Andrew Brown's entire extended map set. That is provided for people's convenience. But, Jonesoft is not required, computer knowledge is not required; there's only a few map panels that are affected, so Babes takes a shortcut approach. Ability to read, however, is good [;)]

If you want Babes Extended Map, all you need do is go to the Babes site, then go to '7 Map Art and Data', read what it says. And then download Babes_and_Extended_Map_Data_and_Art.zip follow the simple instructions and you are good to go.

Pull it all of the Da Babes Site. EASY AS PIE!

Ah, now I see. I missed the simple and clear top-level "Map Art and Data" page and went straight down to the more complicated instructions. Being eager to jump into things is good, but sometimes following all the steps along the way is better. Thank you all for the help!

No problem, Bro. I'm a very old man and still think of pools as sloping 'down' to the deep end.

Kinda OT, I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of pool depth as a function of swim speed. I can imagine some serious interference chop set up by a shallow pool depth, especially for a 400m individual medly relay race. But then again, I'm just an old man and a physicist, and who wants to listen to those people anyway [:D]

Not exactly a peer-reviewed study but this article discusses the effect of the depth of the Olympic swimming pool in Beijing, which was 1m deeper than most competitive pools, on the swimmers' speed. It is one of many articles on the subject, which was much in the news at the time. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93478073

It seems the English like the idea: "Another advantage for the swimmers competing at London 2012 could be the depth of the pool. As with Beijing the pool at the Aquatics Centre will be three metres deep - a metre more than most ordinary competitive pools. The extra depth helps to reduce the turbulence caused by the swimmer’s movement, which causes less resistance." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/swimming/8924083/Olympic-swimming-records-set-to-tumble-at-London-2012-as-Speedo-unveil-Fastskin3-swimwear-system.html

Oh, totally cool. Bottom depth has always been an issue with sailors. Bottom depth IS inversely proportional to surface chop, so driver skill becomes paramount. And then, as the bottom comes within a proportional [sqrt]2 factor, of the keel depth, the tip vorticies go to poop, and it's laminar over the midsection and maybe the first third of the keep section. A kinda bad thing to depend on if you are pounding through chop and need to keep a lee bow on a competitor. Glad to hear that people are thinking on this kinda stuff.
