over a hundred enemy bomber sorties flown daily against Clark Field and this has gone on like this for a year now... probably more bombs rained down on Clark Field up to now than on Berlin over the course of the whole war...

AAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHH [:@]

what is left of KB runs into one of my subs in the South China Sea, heading towards Singapore... seems like KB might going to operate against my move on Moulmein, interdicting my supply line to Rangoon... we have three or four big convoys going back and forth from Calcutta to Rangoon to bring supplies which are needed there as the supplies are sucked up by my Army, partially it's sucked into China and funnily enough, it is also sucked back to India... loool, the supply routine always amazed me... India got over 1 million supplies, mostly sitting in Karachi... Calcutta is set to draw max supplies which means there are some 80,000 supplies and everytime one of my convoys picks up 40,000 we end up with supply going from Karachi as well as from Burma to Calcutta, which can be clearly seen on tracker... oh well, forces us to constantly use convoys...

intel:

5th Air Division is located at Moulmein(55,55).

I would have moved the air HQ out of Moulmein instead of getting it destroyed there for no gain...

castor troy -> RE: Continental Clash - Cuttlefish (J) vs castor troy (A) (12/7/2012 1:16:19 PM)

wasn't happy about my sub firing duds at Kaga and Cuttlefish wasn't happy with his carriers being spotted... I will keep up using my convoys going to Rangoon as there is no imminent danger... there's plenty of nav search and we also got several subs patrolling North of the Malacca Strait so we should spot everything coming North... several subs have been ordered to patrol the area around Singapore, perhaps we get another shot on a carrier... this move of KB at least also tells me Cuttlefish hasn't fallen completely asleep...

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

that's the real highlight of the turn as our Commonwealth Army pushes back the Japanese troops SE of Moulmein which means we are very close to surrounding Moulmein and cutting off the Japanese... 4th IJA division was probably nearly fully destroyed after having all combat squads disabled in our last attack... if the enemy isn't starting to retreat tomorrow using the road South to Tavoy then the troops will be cut off at Moulmein and there is no way the enemy will be able to hold the town nor being able to free the units... well, an amphib evac could be attempted but being so close to Rangoon (level 9 af) and Moulmein (level 9 af) it would be suizide to do so as nearly all my RAF bombers and all my USAAF bombers in the area are fully low nav trained... means 200 bombers plus 250 fighters would operate against the IJN that attempts an operation at a base that has no operational airfield... not to forget the British and US CA/CL/DD I have available... no, I just can't see him trying to do that, not even if KB would still be intact...

Well, the Japanese are known for committing suicide.

CF might just try it to avoid losing the Imperial Guards Division. (Tokyo Rose would have a hard time explaining that one . . .[:D])

I just wouldn't waste my troops defending a place I can't hold nor holding long enough to matter... the fight for Moulmein as I saw it was about holding Moulmein and keeping me from surrounding it (which CF tried to some extend) but as soon as we threw out the three Japanese divisions SE of Moulmein he should have evacuated everything back to Tavoy or any hex on the road with good defensive terrain... CF seems to be far too static, it took me weeks to cross a single hex, let alone the three hexes I had to march through...

I am always preparing and bringing enough troops as if I would fight an enemy that actually defends his place which CF has never been doing so far. As it takes three months to ready my troops for a target there might always be the possibility that CF suddenly wakes up and decides to bring some troops into his frontline hence why my invasions look like that way.

castor troy -> RE: Continental Clash - Cuttlefish (J) vs castor troy (A) (5/2/2013 2:38:48 PM)

long time no update as it just wasn't really worth it as the game was boring enough already and the AAR would only be famous for the most boring PBEM ever. The game was going on though and is now in 9/43, biggest highlight was the destruction of the rest of the IJN carrier force around Borneo at the beginning of 43 for the loss of Wasp.

Below the current situation. We crushed Burma long ago, then Thailand, then Indochina and what was left on Malaysia. Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Mindanao and Southern China, the Allied machine was rolling over the Japanese at will, destroying enemy units left and right. There are some red dots left on the map on NE Borneo but these bases are all no threat and can be taken by two btn at will. Currently we have landed 3500 av on Luzon with another 3000 waiting to be brought in. The enemy is split in two already with three div cut off on Southern Luzon, these units are no threat. If they move, they will be bombed and destroyed by the Allied air armada. There is one full enemy division at Manila with a crushed one plus lots of support units but in total not even 1000 av. A small garisson at Clark Field and that's it on Northern Luzon as Cuttlefish made a huge mistake putting those three divs into the Southern bases as these bases are all death traps (two of them in clear terrain).

Luzon will be completely cleared in a couple of weeks for nearly no loss and then we can think of landing on Japan already, that will be around March 44 or so. Formosa is bombed from the Southern China bases, I can land there at will with about 6000 Commonwealth av while I only need 1500 to take the whole island. China is a mess for the Japanese already, as the Chinese are fully supplied with roughly 30,000 av available plus the RAF/USAAF having some 800 fighters plus 500 bombers at level 9 bases, destroying everything in range.

As you can see, I left CENTPAC completely untouched, that's a theatre where I always thought one would give the Japanese a better chance to strike back than elsewhere and I just don't need these islands/atolls.

castor troy -> RE: Continental Clash - Cuttlefish (J) vs castor troy (A) (5/2/2013 2:47:23 PM)

Here's the intel screen. We've scored a Major Victory many months ago already, whenever the IJ airforce shows up it is destroyed by massed sweeps followed by the 4E armada, there have literally been no IJ offensive strikes against my bases and whenever my fleet showed up the USAAF took care about the enemy's airfields so my fleet never really was in danger of being hit, let alone being hit hard.

Long time I was wondering why there is no tougher resistance of the Japanese in terms of ground units until I figured Cuttlefish must be running really low on LCU already when I was looking the the points for ground losses when this number is soon going to go over 8000. The Japanese get a lot of LCU in 44 but we are only in 9/43 so I guess I have destroyed a fair amount of Japanese units more than the enemy received so far. After the carnage in the SRA was over early on we already suffered 5000 pts lost for Allied ground losses, so since we have been on the offense the point ratio must have been something like 7000 pts lost for the Japanese and 1000 pts lost for the Allied (if it even was that much). Considering that the Japanese aren't worth as many points as the Allied you can figure yourselve what that means for the Japanese at this stage.

I have lost twice as many aircraft to ops than to actual combat, this pretty much says it all how the airwar was going. There were a couple of intense days when we broke the enemy airforce's neck, followed by weeks of surpression bombing runs.

enemy sub losses were relatively light, there are three midgets below that screenshot and that's it so the rest are something like 275 merchant ships and escorts of all types

castor troy -> RE: Continental Clash - Cuttlefish (J) vs castor troy (A) (5/2/2013 3:05:38 PM)

and here is the single screen with all of my losses. Lol, all fitted on one screen.

We have lost Wasp when a CL and some DD penetrated a BB/CA/DD screen to put torps and shells into the carrier while one and a halve dozen Allied escorts just watched the carrier being pummeled, later the carrier was hit by a couple of Kates and she was gone. I actually blamed the naval combat routine for losing the carrier as it was just a dumb result, seeing an IJN CL and IIRC four DD shelling a carrier while two modern USN BB, several CA/CLAA and at least a dozen USN DD just watched the fireworks. The reason then is "air combat TF vs surface combat TF" but that is nothing but ridicoulos and has been discussed often enough. Yes, there were several SC and ASW TF in the same hex but the IJN Super Mario brothers directly engaged the air combat TF instantly shelling the carrier from a couple of thousand yards as if the whole screen and the roughly 50 other USN/RN ships in the hex would not exist.

California was sunk together with St. Louis during the Pearl Harbour strike and the rest was lost during combat, mostly early on. Lost a total of four subs so far. [:D]

Kudos to Cuttlefish for not giving up, because it's not good

Those air losses are very light on both sides; Greyjoy and I have combined lost more than twice as many aircraft by the same date

That must mean a lack of major air battles, or aggressiveness

from my point of view, there is just nothing around when it comes down to the enemy's airforce so I just keep pounding his destroyed, empty airfields. Whenever the enemy airforce shows up, Cuttlefish turns around after a couple of days as my P-47/Corsair/P-38 sweeps are killing him, let alone the destroyed aircraft on the ground afterwards by 300 4E attacking.

Cuttlefish still hangs in there, even though he probably isn't really motivated which isn't surprising when looking at the situation. The game has been really boring for quite some time already but we stick to one turn a day (I'd preferre three a day) and while there were an offer to surrender already after losing pretty much the rest of his carriers we agreed to carry on. My intention for carrying on was the hope trying to land on the home islands.

Ouch! Are you sure that Cuttlefish is not just playing a cruel joke on you and you have actually been beating his 8 year old son for the past six months while he is watching TV.....?

castor troy -> RE: Continental Clash - Cuttlefish (J) vs castor troy (A) (5/3/2013 8:36:28 AM)

I'll hope not but I'll see in a couple of months when attempting to land closer or on Japan. If he really just pulls my leg sending me turns he didn't look at that would be the most disappointing event since I've started playing WITP. [:(]
