What is the tactical difference between "deliberate" vs "shock".
If you want to use engineers to reduce enemy forts, should I use deliberate rather than shock, or does it matter?

Thanks

Deliberate: a normal attack

Shock: an all out assault, very bloody, may gain what normal can't. Key word may.

Combat engineers work just as well against fortifications in a deliberate attack.

IIRC....Shock Attackers can double their AV....in exchange the defenders hit them with an extra fire phase prior to the assault.

...and in practice sometimes shock attacks work but sometimes they shatter your attacking force.

Fort reduction can result from two things:
Combat Engineers,
or final force ratio. Generally for every point of ratio you will see reduction by 1 level (so 1:1 reduces by 1, 2:1, by 2 etc.).

So, if you expect assault to push your ratio into another level, you should shock attack. If you do not expect even 1:1, Combat Engineers are your only hope, so deliberate attack is better option.
