Q-Ball -> What's Changed, and what hot mod are all the kids playing? (5/3/2012 4:03:11 AM)

I have been away from WITP-AE for a bit, and coming back. I offered to continue vs. Dan, but he's tied up, so I'll probably want to pick up a game. Which begs several questions.

First, since July 2011, what are the major changes with the patches? I read all the Changes, but what does that mean for gameplay, REALLY? As far as I can tell, Search Arcs now actually work, and there are some nify things you can do with supply stockpiling.

Second, what is the hot mod that all the kids are playing? Looks like RA Mod is popular, as well as DDB. Plus, there is a map apparently with stacking limits in every hex. Can anyone comment on what they like on these? I liked the old Scen 2, but also like the idea of stacking limits I think; interested how that's playing out.

Many thanks in advance!

Here is a link for the latest update for the program. http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/downloads/

I would suggest you look at DaBigBabes page. Here is a link. https://sites.google.com/site/dababeswitpae/
This site has the stacking limit mod also, which I think adds a lot to the game, mostly in SEAC and China area.
It also has some updated scenario files for the stock scenarios that fix AA, ASW, etc.

Latest official patch seems to be the shiznit, Q-ball dude. You may want to familiarize yourself with the plethora of 'fixes' and changes incorporated therin.

Welcome back Sir. Da Babes is excellent. We used it as a template for RA and that has been a good combination. Read around and see what grabs you.

Q-Ball! Welcome back! Got tired of the eastern front, eh? [;)] [:D]

I'm playing the latest official patch, which was the beta for the longest time. Scenario 1. It's great! Looking forward to your AAR! [:)]

I agree with others about the best being via DaBabes website. There are those mods there and a recent addition of Scenario 2 being converted over to the DaBabes format. I'm playing as Japan in Scenario 2, but with the modified Pwhex files with the stacking limits and a new game as Allies using Reluctant Admiral 4.1.

Regardless of what you play, choose to do so with modified Pwhex files to get stacking limits and eliminate those "Death Stars" that both sides can form.

Welcome back to your first love...WITP/AE!![:D]

I would add another vote for DaBabes. I am playing the version with the stacking limits everywhere and reduced cargo loads. The stacking limits really makes China tough since massing enough raw assault strength in one hex to move a larger concentration of Chinese is very difficult. The reduced cargo loads are also interesting. While it has not substantially slowed the Japanese advance (I play Japan against witpqs. He has an AAR going) it has made the sub game Logistics in the Pacific much more challenging. Moving troops around is more challenging and requires more planning of what is where when.
