I get the following error message:

Ive followed the following advice froma previous post, "Also please verify that you have .NET 3.5 installed in addition to any other versions of .NET that you may have on your machine. You might also look in your Windows\assembly folder and verify that you have a file there called System.Xml Version 2.0.0.0."

Ive done this & reinstalled CoH, ive updated my drivers.

All to no avail.

I really dont know what else to do.

Would you mind posting your DxDiag report? I'll take a look at that and see if I can spot anything that might be causing problems.

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers, or changing to a different audio device? The above error occurs during audio hardware initialization, so my guess is that this is where the problem lies.

I had the EXACT same error and also have an SB Audigy sound card. I got the game to run by turning the sound card OFF (ie no longer the default sound provider). Worked perfectly!

I'm not sure why there seems to be problems with this sound card. We're just using standard XNA/DirectX audio initialization here. I'll see if I can find more information on this problem.

Hi Eric,

The identical exception was thrown at me. I allowed the installation dialog to install/repair XNA, DirectX, and .NET. Also, I've updated audio device drivers. Unlike Dresden and petdoc, turning off my sound card did not allow me to bypass the problem.

I'm not at my home computer, so I cannot post my DxDiag report (I can do this later if it will help). I was just wondering if you've found out anything else about this problem. The game looks great and I would love to play it soon.

I have found threads for other games using DirectX citing some problems with certain types of Creative audio cards, including users of some AAA games like Battlefield and Halo 2. Unfortunately it seems as though there is no single solution: most of the advice on these threads are to reinstall the card and update the drivers, and to try disabling the card if that doesn't work. They also recommend checking to make sure you don't have two or more audio drivers active. Some people claim that their audio cards stop working when Windows updates are released. Others claim their cards work with certain DirectX games and not others (which could be related to the different types of audio services different games try to request from the cards).

I found a post on a programming blog claiming that some video cards will tell DirectX that they support certain types of hardware acceleration which they actually don't, then DirectX will request that the card initialize the hardware acceleration, which causes a crash. I don't know whether that's what's happening here, but it's plausible.

One guy claimed all he had to do to get the card to work was disable the audio enhancements:

Please post your DxDiag and I'll see what I can find. If we can't get this working, I may add an out-of-game option to disable all sound within the game, so people who are having cards with audio problems can at least get the game to run.

I was able to avoid the exception by turning on the sound card and plugging in a pair of headphones or speakers. Then the game worked perfectly, sound and all. Apparently, the lack of a peripheral output was the problem (in my case). Sorry if this was stupid, but thanks again for your attention and help.

Just as a follow up, I tried disabling all soundblaster audio enhancements on my speaker properties tab as per ericbabe and IT WORKED! I can now play with sound. Thanks for your follow up research ericbabe, fantastic customer support!!!
