UPDATE: 09/08/42

Combat:
The sighting reports are interesting, The speed tells me its warships - but no repair facilities except Truk nearby and thats northwest... curious. My 17 Seabee battalions are making short work of building up Mojave for the Marine training squadrons.The Chinese pilots are picking on 2nd string Sonia's and Ida's, but it's also making quite a few experienced pilots for the pools. I'll have to go back and try to figure out what got the BB Kongo, mines probably. [8D]

UPDATE: 09/09/42

Combat:
Not a lot to report here, I'm going to start including Pilot Kills - In case you know somebody on the list! [:D]. Mojave is expanding nearly one size per turn, thanks to 45K in supply and 16 SeaBee battalions there. The sighting report is a reminder for me to check the area... 17 kts possibly can be a fast cargo, but more likely troop movement, unless its warships out for a cruise? nahhh lol!

8th JAAF AF Coy is located at Kuala Lumpur(49,79).
11th JAAF Base Force is located at Makassar(65,106).

Aerial: The Japs Singapore is losing between 100-200 troops per day from bombing and something must give eventually, right? His AV is way too high when I bombard him so I have to figure something else out... Any suggestions? I'm keeping up the pressure on the Imperial Division and its cohorts, since they moved a hex - its like starting all over again with the bombers not hitting anything the first few turns. For an unhistorical twist I transferred the B25B bombers to the China Air Task Force to help control the pests... Hanoi was a successful test and there will be 5 squadrons of B25B's eventually and I will move them to tackle the Nanchang logjam.

My P38 groups are now set up and flying against Lae, Buna and Salamaua, Larry's running his first string up against them
with nice results for the Allies. Sabang is now hosting another B17 squadron for now and I try my hand at long distance bombing against Singapore.

Combat: Back to lots of aerial action, Victoria Point and Sabang will be linchpin Ports/AF's to taking Bangkok and forcing Larry's forces back to Saigon hopefully in the next year... too ambitious? lol!

I'm caught up two the two week deadline and need to now take a look how I want to prioritize the war and objectives based on where I want to go from here.

I'm going away for the weekend and expect to be page two news when I get back... I'm hoping to get some feedback and especially analysis of what you've read so far... I'll post some pix and overall strategy on Monday so all comments would be appreciated by this "phase two" rookie.

I figure Larry has stood down his fighters. My problem here is the long legs needed by the bombers
to reach here from Australia, and lack of Eng. LCU's that I can move to Port Moresby.
Singapore bombings still are effective and Losing 100+ casualties every turn has to be having some effect!
Ndeni apparently has removed its ships from port, so I'm goning to switch to ground bombing and naval searches there.

Usually those reported hits are from search planes (whether naval search or ASW). They are only allegations of a hit and are subject to FOW.

moore4807 -> RE: Another day... (8/10/2013 4:15:48 PM)

witpqs - thanks for the info, as usual you are a treasure trove of info about the game and what I'm doing wrong [8D]

I'm going to run Larry's turn now and try to remember to take some .jpg's this time to give you an idea of whats going on... Somehow we got into mid-October 42 and I'm still mid-September 42 of the AAR, I've got about 10 days to catch up on...

I schlubbed at home yesterday and after doing both my AE turns, I started a Steel Panthers campaign (USMC vs Japan) and got through 3 battles pretty much unscathed, I play on the hardest setting and usually get outnumbered 3-1 in the scenarios. My wish is that they would update the screens/graphics of the game to a AE style. After a decade since the "re-do" there is a lot of upgrades that could be done and I'd be interested to play it. Anybody out there also a Steel Panther player?

moore4807 -> RE: Another day... (8/19/2013 9:58:03 PM)

Wow, what I write at 3a is certainly head shaking in the following light of day...

CV Wasp is NOT going to Ndeni - currently an enemy port! She will instead move to Luganville to await escorts to take her to Sydney (nearest capable shipyard).

I also didn't put the planes attacking into the aerial section. I will rectify that on the next week's report.

What do you think of the style? any suggestions? Remember I'm new at this so you can only help me get better.

Pix are coming as soon as I get to Larry's turn today. Thank you for your patience [:)]

moore4807 -> RE: Another day... (8/30/2013 11:19:53 PM)

UPDATE: Week of September 21st 1942 (9/21-9/27)

The explanation for this is I tried to tidy it up and limit combat shown to three per day per type...
I have read where readers don't want stats upon stats but from my rookie seat I'm trying to
give an impression of the reports that would be generated in a real war...

Also I do not include damaged or disabled units in the reports - consider it FOW

Combat: Keeping pressure up on Larry is this weeks goal, If I dont get Moulemein I figure it will fall shortly.

"Allied Ships Bombarding enemy troops at Singapore" - A rookie's learning curve works out! Giving Larry a bloody nose here will hopefully make him back offand keep Fortress Singapore running...

Aerial: I noticed for the first time that the opponent's faced is included in the reports, hopefully it's FOW mixed in there too, as I already see some advantages by picking on the Akagi fighters that are hanging around Buna (land based?). I know IRL most of the planes had markers identifying them, but there should be some questions if more than one unit of the same type attacks...just sayin...

Naval: Still is like playing whack-a-mole at the boardwalk...lol!
I've gotten really good advice from players and I hope it continues [:)] I'm curious what is the preferred method for choking off a port with subs?
I can already see that airpower is the way to force the issue with the japanese player because Larry is just stretched so thin all over, it's making him choose what he will defend and what he will just abandon.

moore4807 -> Parbuckling the Concordia ship (9/16/2013 7:13:24 PM)

I found this site thats providing a live feed of the "parbuckling" the Concordia off Giglio Is... It's night time now but still pretty interesting.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2013/sep/16/costa-concordia-live-stream

John 3rd -> RE: Parbuckling the Concordia ship (9/18/2013 10:05:54 PM)

Moore: You've played a decent way into the Mod. Have you had the fighter pool issues that CR had in our match?

moore4807 -> CR VS John3rd and you want MY opinion??? (9/19/2013 2:29:34 AM)

John,

This is a crappy answer but Yes and NO...

Yes - I have difficulty in maintaining the sqdrn's strength in combat and frequently have to pull them back to refit and depending on the plane type and supplies/bases nearby that can take up to a month.

IMHO - its more the way that CR has used the all or nothing gambit in his game, The strategy isn't bad but its the equivalent of outrunning your supply lines. He's committed so much in one place that he couldn't have any reserves to "swap out". So in that case my answer is NO...

The Allies get a lot of toys, and more and more as the game goes on, but the production numbers are not concentrated and you sort of have to look at what is the strength's you have. ie; small amount of P-38's or alot of P-40's. If you unhistorically equip everybody with the P-40 you have a medium fighter and a fair amount of replenishment, where the P-38 is concerned you have a great fighter but need to judiciously use them and not get into an attrition war with them. (like you didn't know that already!) He is throwing everything in that theatre like the kitchen sink, and is forcing you to play to him in 1942. Again IMHO he's just a tad too early for this but I did the same type move in Burma relying more on the Brits/Aussies vs. LarryF than he did shipping everything over to Malaysia

Make sense?

PS: I learned and have used a LOT of what CR has shown us in his AAR over the past year, I see brilliance in some moves and his style appeals to me. Conversely I am a fan of yours for your calculated "crusher" style of play - no wild gambits, always have a backup plan and looking two or three months ahead. Playing as the Japanese - you have managed the economy far better than I could ever hope to and I also have learned a great deal reading your AAR. (takes fanboy hat off)

Good luck and I sincerely hope CR keeps playing - BUT completely understand if he takes time off or backs away from it.

John 3rd -> RE: CR VS John3rd and you want MY opinion??? (9/19/2013 2:51:30 AM)

Your answer makes a great amount of sense. It is honest and pretty balanced. Thank you for taking the time to give it some thought.

With 6.0 we're tweaking those Allied numbers a bit to help 'some!' [8D]
