Panzerfist, In answer to your question about a First Sergeant, the USMC rank structure is set up like this. Gunnery Sergeant (E7) First Sergeant(E8) This is a staff/command position and is usually the senior enlisted rank in a company Master Sergeant(E8) This is for senior enlisted that havechosen to stay in their selected MOS. The senior enlisted man in our Communications platoon was a Master Sergeant. Sergeant Major (E9) The highest staff/command enlisted rank. Most battalions have a SgtMaj and most USMC bases have their own "Base" SgtMaj. MasterGunnery Sergeant (E9) Highest enlisted rank when staying withing your MOS. The senior enlisted Marine in our MP unit on MCAGCC 29 Palms was a MasterGunnery Sergeant. thanks for the info. i talked to a sgt today about the splitting of the e-8's and so on. in my command (VFA 125, Lemoore, ca) there is a marine post but since its an NAS, lemoore, is dominated by navy. thanks p/f/

SgtMjr Price 1960 thru 1975 reserves went as advicer 1975 thru 1981 to Middle east areas, 1981 thru 2000 Active duty Sniper Instructor. Sgt Prce Jr. 1983 - 1993 Combat enginner ther switched to Sniper duty. Injured and discharged. Both me and My father Miss the Corp. But had no choice Semper Fi and Good luck.

1STSGT, USMC, READ THIS AT THE POSITION OF ATTENTION. Whorton, James, MAJ, Army, retired Enlisted 1973-75, 11B, 2nd Bde, 8th ID, Baumholder, GER, "The Rock" Officer 1975-92. Spent most of that time on the division staff of 5th ID, Ft. Polk, LA, 8th ID, Bad Kreuznach, GER, back to 5th ID. I spent Desert Storm training the 256th Inf. Bde, La. National Guard at Ft. Hood, TX. I won't comment further on that experience. I worked in public relations my last six years. I have worked with Marines occasionally. Interesting duty. Once had a great flag football game involving Marines back in 78. I was with an Army detachment in Pittsburgh of all places, and our team played a Marine team. The game ended in a brawl. I recall a Marine captain (I am not making this up!) biting one of our guys on the leg. (Our guy lived, by the way.) I got in one good punch, and the Marine I hit kept saying after it was over, "I can't believe the L-T hit me." I think they drummed him out of the Corps later. Anyway, after the fight, the Marines took us to our enlisted club and bought us all drinks. They thought it was the most fun they had had in a long time. Another Marine story. I flew in to Panama with a battalion from Ft. Polk in the spring of 89, prior to Just Cause, when Noriega was acting up. At one of our briefings the in-country folks told us about an ammo dump guarded by Marines. They told us to steer well clear of it, because the Marines shot at everything and had just recently shot at some other Army guys. We believed them and didn't try out luck. Great guys, Marines. CARRY ON, 1ST SGT.

Most sporting events at least in my unit seemed to degenerate into this kind of behavior. What can I say..... It's a gift. I think one of the most hilarious comments I heard though was an Army Captain asking our Company Commander while we were on a 25 mile hump, "Why is it that everytime they (meaning us)stop for more than 5 minutes, they end up throwing things at each other?" Our CO replied, "They're just being Marines Captain. If they don't have someone else to screw with, they screw with each other." mccarty - nice to see another navy person around - although i have always considered myself a misplaced army soldier (dont ask). ive stood watch with the bonhomme richard (and actually got into a fight with a ltjg from that ship - its a long, funny story). i was on the USS COWPENS and let me say - its nice to see what 5'54's can do to a beachhead. its our way of saying "reach out and smash someone" p.s. - those tomahawks aint so bad either! p/f/

Hi troops, looks like we could form a small platoon. Speaking of rough housing/grab ass in the service. I remember while at one of the first Gallant Eagle FTX at Ft Irwin my air unit det was bivouacked near a Marine grunt unit. After seeing some Marines rolling in the dirt I asked their LT what they were doing. He told me they had some "free time" so they were playing "Bull in the Ring"!! Needless to say I was glad I was in the Air Wing. As we used to say "Swing with the Wing"! Semper Fi to all Active and Vets Randy
