Widi -> UV v2.10 problems (11/30/2002 11:58:54 PM)

I updated to v2.10 this morning.

On entering the game I can get to the saved games screen fine. Then it gets interesting.

First, all the save slots appear empty. Even when I rename the saves as instructed from outside UV the save slots still appear empty on entering UV. I though that maybe the old games might have been lost completely so I loaded some pbem saved game files. Unfortunately, these still did not show up on the saved game slots. /boggle

So, what to do? Well, I though I'd just try to load a save slot in which I KNEW there was a game saved there. Doing this, however, scrambled the screen and locked up the game completely.

Should I just download v2.00 again and hope my saved games show up and the program works? Or is there something else I could try?

Any assistance here would be appreciated.

Please guys, read what we posted regarding "Saved Games" from 2.00 to 2.10.

All got explained in Davidīs initial post regarding the Patch release, on the main website and in the "UV Updates for v2.10.pdf" coming with the patch too.

Saved Games: Campaigns that were started with version 2.0 or earlier can be played with version 2.10. There may be some bugs, however, caused by database changes and the first turn in version 2.10 may have some problems. The VCR replay for the first turn played in the new version may have errors. After that, everything should be ok.

To convert old files to the new format, used in version 2.0, you just need to rename them.
1) The autosave in slot zero should be renamed uv000_autosave.uvs
2) The combat vcr replay in slot one should be renamed uv001_combatsave.uvs
3) The other files should be renamed, using the following convention:

uvxxx_scen.uvs where xxx is the slot number

This will cause the saved game to show up in the saved game list of the game. You should then load the game with some meaningful comment. When you look in the saved game folder, you will see the game you saved, with the slot number and the comment you assigned, such as:

UV004_Carrier Battle.UVS

this should aid in saved game management.

First of all, I read the instructions for the patch.

What I tried to do was rename the saved games. This did not allow access to the games.

Now, instead of saving a pbem game and then renaming it I just tried saving it under your new format. Thankfully, the game accessed this new saved game just fine.

Now, What do we do about the solo games? I can't get in them to save them in the new format and I don't have saves outside UV (and prior to v2.10) to 'save as' in the new format.

It seems you actually only renamed the files name but not also the file type.

Try this:

In "MyComputer" or the "Windows Explorer" just go to:

Tools -> Folder Options -> View

There uncheck "Hide extensions for known files types"

And é voila your able to edit even the file type

note: the path above is from WindowsXP. The path might by slighty different on other OSs. But you get the idea.
