JWE -> To Honor the Queen (6/4/2012 12:21:43 AM)

Today, my Yacht Club had a special regatta in honor of the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. A really great Monarch. You guys must be very proud of her.

Long may she reign.

Huzzah!!

JohnDillworth -> RE: To Honor the Queen (6/4/2012 1:46:18 AM)

Watched all day. Despite the weather it seems like you folks made a great day of it. Favorite moment was the finish by the Philharmonic, with the poor singers belting it out on top of the barge in the puring rain. To you and the club a hearty.............."Well Done".

One has to admire this woman.

I was out of town camping, so I didn't get to monitor any of the goings on for the Queen, but a nod to Great Britain in her time of celebration!

We Americans are not monarchists, of course, though we have a great deal of affection for our long-time staunch Allies across the ocean.

Historiker's use of the term "monarchist" reminded me of my favorite quote involving a king (I paraphrase going from memory here):  Back like 1912 or 1916 the Olympics were held in Norway.  Jim Thorpe, a famous American athlete, was formally introduced to the King of Norway.  Thorpe's reply immediately after the introduction?  "Hey, King."

Well I'm not a monarchist, but God bless her anyway. [sm=00001746.gif]

She has done a great job doing a difficult task, all for her country. She makes Margret Thatcher look like a cheap barmaid.

As a Yankee revolutionary I tip my hat to her.

Canoerebel -> RE: To Honor the Queen (6/5/2012 6:41:39 PM)

Over the course of this thread, two comments have been made that were political and completely unnecessary.  I don't want to resurrect them, but neither do I want them to be deemed accepted by virtue of nobody replying.  Let's just leave this as the original poster intended:  a salute to the long-serving queen.

Encircled -> RE: To Honor the Queen (6/5/2012 6:54:46 PM)

I think the news summed it up best

Thousands of people up and down the country having Jubilee celebrations, about thirty pro-republic protesters being ignored along the thames.

God save the Queen!

Treetop64 -> RE: To Honor the Queen (6/5/2012 7:47:37 PM)

Always thought she was an excellent representative of how monarchs should be.

Very proud for you Brits!
