After reading about the harrowing journey of the 501 SS Heavy Panzer Battalion from Belgium to the Normandy area, it got me wondering why they didn't move their armor on low-boy/flat trailers, like tanks are transported today. It wouldn't have helped with the Allied AF, but it certainly would've minimized the trail of broken down Panzers. Did anyone in the ETO use trucks or is that a relatively new concept?
