popejoy1 -> Bug in transport loading (12/2/2002 11:29:32 AM)

Gang:

I have reported this to Ross directly and have sent in a save game, but I thought I'd post this in this forum for general information.

Ross,

I have attached a save game - not included in forum post - with a repeatable Transport loading error.

Situation: Allied TF 209 (Transport) is loading the 18th, 21st and 25th Australian brigades in Brisbane, but has not completed loading. Allied TF 211 (Transport), with 6xAPD, is docked at Efata Port Vila. The 6th Seabees are at Efata Port Vila.

Problem: If TF 211 attempts to load the 6th Seabees, APD's GREGORY, LITTLE, MCKEAN and STRINGHAM will start loading units from 6th Seabees, but APD's MANLEY and COLHOUN will start loading 3/21st Australian brigade and 4/21st Australian brigade even though those ground units are in Brisbane, not Efata Port Vila.

The only thing I can think of that might have caused this problem occured when I started loading the Australian brigades a couple of turns earlier. I loaded each brigade into a separate TF in order to optimize unit loading on the AP's available at Brisbane, so at the time TF 209, 210, and 211 each consisted of two AP's that were each loading an Australian brigade, with TF 211 loading the 21st Brigade. I then merged all the Transport TFs in Brisbane into one TF (TF 209), which "eliminated" TF211 by merging it into TF209.

When I was finished merging TF209, I created a couple of new TFs, including the current TF211 which is supposed to load the Seabees but is instead "remote loading" the 21st Australian Brigade from across the Coral Sea.

I think the problem may be that the game is not clearing all the appropriate data fields when task forces are merged and/or deleted, so that information from their "past lives" affects subsequent missions for any TF "recreated" during the same turn in which it was either deleted and/or merged with another TF.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks! :)

Paul

Ive seen this occasionally, and fixed it by going into the ship affected selecting the ground unit and then exiting. When you check the ship again the unit should have disappeared and it will now load the proper unit.

I have had this problem. Play it safe and disband all ships involved then build the TF from scratch. I make the same mistake and end up with TF arriving at a destination completely empty!!!
(happens much more often with fast transport)
