I haven't actually noticed it myself in any of my games. But that's not to say it hasn't happened - I just haven't noticed it.

If I recall correctly, I think I remember reading on this forum that others have noticed one of their MIAs being found.

Puhis -> RE: MIA Pilots (6/14/2012 3:35:44 PM)

Yes some of them come back.

EDIT: Check operational report, you can see lines like Pilot Okamoto G. is reported as having been found

crsutton -> RE: MIA Pilots (6/14/2012 8:12:18 PM)

Yes, not many but a few do come back.

My MIA tend to escape captivity quite often (once a month or so).

WOnder how they get back to the Home isles after being in a POW camp in CONUS ;)

DOCUP -> RE: MIA Pilots (6/14/2012 10:10:16 PM)

I had 2 either rescued or escaped from a POW camp a couple of turns ago.

Wonder if having search planes or ships in the area = more chance for MIA pilots to be found?

Sadly not [:(] I tried that after a carrier battle, I had around 40 pilots MIA. I also send a sub and a surface vessel. Mavis, Emilys, Jakes etc. Found not a single pilot there.
What helps however is if you have a ship or a sub in the hex when the battle happens, you will recover a bunch of them.

Commander Stormwolf -> RE: MIA Pilots (6/15/2012 1:21:24 AM)

locating downed pilots, part #7 of the Emily swiss army knife [:)]

#6 is launch from surface vessels

and let's keep in mind

carry torpedoes, ASW radar, transport supplies, refuel by submarine

all components come with the flying porcupine guarantee [8D]

No, but they help lower KIA and make them WIA. Subs in the attack hex really help with this. At least, that is the perception that I have formed. [:'(]

Bah, scour the bars, not the ocean. You'll find them. [:D]

Commander Stormwolf -> RE: MIA Pilots (6/15/2012 4:47:01 AM)

yeah there needs to be a random dice roll of a pilot going MIA without flying any sorties in an urban hex [:D]

Yes i remember those two. After brain wash they going to be good spays[sm=00000619.gif]

But backing to topic. In first 9 months of my PBEM around 20 pilots escape or has been found. It is no big number but for Japanese player it is always good news. Especially if pilot is navy pilot, double ace with XP 85 like it was in my case few times[:D]
But in most cases MIA pilots must be counted as KIA.

Having ships/subs in air combat hex reducing KIA significantly.
If planing major sweep or series of air battles over hex it is always good to have at lest one sub in hex. Also fighting above land base with own troops in hex, even when enemy is owner of hex is helping. At lest in my experience.

EDIT: Edited quote. I use wrong one.
