Les the Sarge sez.
One commenter describing Brazil conquering the US, sorry, that killed the game right there.
Just pretend Jimmy Carter and others of his leftist ilk are in complete control of the USA. They want America to dis-arm and show the world we are "a friendly people". Then the premise of Brazil conquering the USA isn’t that farfetched. Could happen!

Well sure, in real life. But never in a wargame.

When I was in college back in the late 60's, I too was very dismayed with the Viet Nam war and was gradually agreeing more and more with the peace protestors/movement. But I could never join in with them because too many of them were very angry and violent people, like the people who demonstrate at world trade conferences today. Very angry. Very violent. So I think even liberals would take up arms to defend this country (the US) but only when it's a last resort and they personnally are at risk. Of course that is usually when it is too late. But I sure wouldn't buy a wargame that plays this out.

I hope you're joking about Brazil conquering the US. And before you bash Jimmy Carter remember that he actually served his country in the Cold War. The only president to serve as a submariner.

Raindog101 -> (12/7/2002 9:59:47 AM)

Nobody hates America more than American liberals. Jimmy Carter was the worst President America ever had. Insipid, weak, naïve, gullible and just plain stupid. He received the Nobel Prize (whoop-tee-do) for bashing America. A real American would have to them where to stick their odious Prize. In poll after poll he always places lower in popularity than even Richard Nixon. It just kills liberals that the most popular President in the last 100 years was Ronald Reagan.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (12/7/2002 10:22:39 AM)

Disarm America what a totally moronic notion.

Gun owner heaven disam? Total nonsense!

You might have a few persons whipping up noisy sensationalised TV news spots easy enough that get blown way out of proportion to their worth.

America is number one on my list of countries you can count me out of to attack at all ever.

Call em soft call em what you want. It doesn't matter.

There is no way a low tech, low industrial base, small economy country is going to get anywhere invading US soil.

This notion is the notion of someone with a broken logic circuit.

Raindog101 -> (12/7/2002 11:14:52 AM)

Uh... I don't want to dis-arm America, Jimmy Carter does. If Jimma had his way, The Military and the CIA would cease to exist. Private ownership of firearms would be banned, and everybody would be declared a victim... So if Brazil was so inclined to invade America, who would stop them?

Brazil’s new Left/Socialist leader! Give him a couple of years and he will have the place in chaos and ruin. (See Venezuela) ;)

I like Jimmy Carter and respect the work he has done since leaving office, even when I have disagreed with him politically. I think the Noble Peace Prize has become a joke lately, but in this case they made an excellent selection.

However, having spent a little bit of time around submariners, do you think it is wise to point out ex-President Carter was one of them? Those fellows were/are slightly unbalanced and I don’t know if it was from spending too much time under the ocean and out of view of the sun or they were just odd to begin with. ;)

Humm...

Looks like 'Art of Wargaming' style start to begin showing itself here. Too bad...

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (12/7/2002 7:20:14 PM)

Just starting?:)

You must not have read enough posts to get a strong feeling then Ludovic hehe:)

Started out wargaming, but the second you include politicians it just goes the route it always does.

It's just not possible to discuss politics in a civil manner.:)

If we continue discussing politics the thread doesn't have a chance remaining in General discussions.

I think it's important to say first off, that the following isn't directed at any person in particular but rather the entire forum process in introspection. I'm not here to make enemies. I'm just using this thread as an example irregardless of who the participants might be. So don't everyone get their panties ruffled.

There are always going to be people who want to turn every thread into an argument because that's a sure way to get attention. I don't know, maybe these people had abusive, unattentive parents who argued all the time or they just need to prop up their egos through supposed superiority by shouting someone down. And there are many who just can't control thier anger. That's a psychological problem that none of us can cure anyone of and we just have to live with it. But they have every right to post here, even if it is annoying and childish. I don't like to discuss politics on a wargame forum either, but I do jump in occasionally if I feel combative myself or just happen to be in a bad mood and want to dump on someone. We all are guilty of that.

The best thing to do is get a grip on yourself and force yourself not to respond to what you might perceive as stupidity. Sometimes it's best just to remain silent and let the other party do all the talking. If they are being rediculous it will be obvious without any response being required.

Now back to wargaming. Brazil conquering the US in WWII? Ludicrous and a bad historical wargame design. But if you inject Jimmy Carter into the discussion then anything is possible and the discussion becomes moot (i.e., hypothetical, and of no practical importance).

As I said, anyone has the right to post anything they want. Just ignore those that you consider rediculous. We can carry on several discussions in one thread. Just don't respond to the people that annoy you. Unless of course you are looking for a fight.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (12/8/2002 2:22:12 AM)

I'm feeling like a moron myself today, I actually wasn't aware of the Military Gamer online forums.

God I feel clueless today. But looking at the traffic speeds, they weren't seeing a lot more traffic than Wargamer Disussions.
That's sad, because they have a very nice looking sight.

I now count them as one of my must go places along with here and Wargamer.
