David Heath -> Uncommon Valor v2.11 Officially Released! (12/4/2002 1:49:28 PM)

Hello Everyone

Uncommon Valor v2.11 is now available for downloading and playing. If you are playing a PBEM or into a long campaign wait before you update, watch the forums, backup your save files and remember the install will backup your current EXE when it installs the patch. You can find it in the main Uncommon Valor directory with a .bak at the end.

The patch is just under 10 Megabytes. We know some of you have had some issues downloading the patches in the past. Please try using True Update first, if that does not work try our FTP server

Host: ftp.matrixgames.com
Port: 21
Login: anonymous
Password: Your Email Address

and if that does not work try the Matrix download page

Here is what been done.

Uncommon Valor v2.11 Changes - Released 12/3/2002

1) Bullet proofed against pilot assignment error, not functioning in some hardware/operating systems configurations.
2) Added more anti-aircraft ammunition to all classes and ships.
3) Increased submarine ability to evade depth charges, based on the submarines maneuverability and skippers skill.
4) In the Pick Up Troops screen, evoked from the load troops screen, the sort by location and name functions should now work.
5) Reworked the Sounds used in the game.

As always please post your comments here and let us know what you think.

David

Well I think the date is weird.

"released 12/3/02" = 12 March 2002 to a half of the customers.

My preferred date format is the Bill Gates variety - and who can argue with his success - hmm??

3 Dec 02

Joe

frank1970 -> (12/4/2002 4:05:03 PM)

I could not find 2.11 on the downloadpage. Have I made anything wrong?

entemedor -> What version should I download? (12/4/2002 5:09:40 PM)

Hi,
I am still using v2.00, should I update to v2.10 and then v.211, or can I jump directly to v.211?

Thanks for any hint!

Let's not call this the Bill Gates format. It has been the military's format long before he was even born.

DoomedMantis -> (12/4/2002 5:58:29 PM)

True update not working.

Saying it cant find the executable.

Can someone tell me how to get onto the host site so I can download it from there (not in the download section yet)

cheers

DM

David allready posted this above ;)

BK6583 -> 2.11 Patch (12/4/2002 6:38:27 PM)

Try the FTP site referenced above - I just went there and copied the patch to a zip disk without any problem whatsoever.

USSMaine -> (12/4/2002 8:09:53 PM)

At the risk of overstepping my bounds (and having spent too much of my life doing alpha and beta testing as well as customer support)

When I first tried TrueUpdate I got an error saying "UPDATE-UV.cli" not found or no permissions and tried the following -

In my "Uncommon Valor" folder there is a file: "TrueUpdate.cli"

I COPIED this file to "UPDATE-UV.cli" and then tried true update again. This worked for me.

At the risk of being a heretic - I like the TrueUpdate program.....

Von Rom -> (12/4/2002 10:55:56 PM)

Hi :)

Thanks for the new changes.

I would rather not use the trueupdate, since I have downloaded and saved all the previous patches; I can't access the FTP server; and v2.11 isn't available on the downloads page yet. . .

ack :(

Life can be cruel sometimes. . .

Marc von Martial -> (12/4/2002 11:07:54 PM)

Whenever you download a patch via TrueUpdate it gets backedup in the "PATCHES" directory of Uncommon Valor, so you can store it somehwhere else on your HD too if you like ;)

Hi Entemedor

Thanks for any hint!

I think you got bypassed :(

over all I think you get the 2.10 first and then the 2.11 the 2nd one fixes a bug some of us had in 2.10, but I don't know it is covers all that was in that one or not

I think if the true update works for you, it will go in order ??

good luck

HARD_Sarge

David Heath -> (12/4/2002 11:29:31 PM)

True Update will Update your game patches in order. You must upgrade to v2.10 then go to v2.11

I just had the same problem, and the same solution worked (well, actually I just renamed the file in place). I suspect patch 2.10 screwed up TrueUpdate (on at least some systems). At least I definitely did not modify any filenames in that folder myself prior to the problem showing up.

Basement Command -> (12/5/2002 12:51:15 AM)

I don't see the 2.11 patch on the downloads page either. And I do not know what to do with the Port, Login and Password info in David Heath's Posting. Can anyone tell me how to use that info to access the FTP site? Looks like it is mostly a matter of including that info in the ftp address, but I do not know the syntax. If I simply enter ftp.matrixgames.com I get a a message stating that Windows can not access that folder.

SoulBlazer -> (12/5/2002 5:22:00 AM)

Check past threads for instructions on how ti fix True Update . (I never had to fix mine and downloaded all the patches just fine from the Start Programs icon.) Also, I think the instructions are given allready in one of the replies.

anthonykevinluke -> Air to Air (12/5/2002 6:08:40 AM)

Greetings,

Many thanks for the patch. Was the problem with aerial bloodbaths and poor zero performance against early aircraft adressed?

Yours Aye,

Tony

I also had the same exact problem, when I renamed the file TU worked fine. I suspect that you are right in that the 2.10 patch somehow affected the TU file. I am using a Dell system win 98 second edition.

The air-to-air bloodbath, no, it wasn't........

RayM -> (12/5/2002 11:19:26 AM)

TrueUpdate worked fine. No problem with download or update.

yes I saw what David wrote, but I dont know how to access this. Do I just type this as the address after www etc? because I tried this and it didn't work. I also tried to do a search for this ip address and didn't come up with anything either.

I now have the update (solution with regards to file name), but would really like to know this for future refference

thanks

Download an FTP client from one of those gazillions shareware sites out there. For example Tucows at www.tucows.com.
I recommend CuteFTP though, itīs not freeware but you can test it for some 30 days or so.

With the FTP client you can "easily" connect to FTP sites and browse them.

DoomedMantis -> (12/5/2002 6:15:34 PM)

Thanks mate, always wondered how to do this

corbulo -> no comprendo nada de eso (12/5/2002 9:26:05 PM)

1- once i get from tucows the ftp download, how does one use it?
2- if one person is playing 2.10 and another 2.11 does it make any difference in pbem games?

Marc von Martial -> (12/5/2002 10:23:25 PM)

1. That depends on the programm, youmight want to check itīs manual or help ;)

2. Yes

jcjordan -> (12/6/2002 5:56:58 AM)

I didn't see ver 2.11 available on the downloads page I only saw to ver 2.1 but I did get it from the ftp site. Just FYI for Matrix.

Cap Mandrake -> (12/8/2002 9:58:40 PM)

Remember what USS Maine says ;) because his suggestion was right for me too. I copy and pasted the "TrueUpdate.cli" file to the main UV folder, then renamed the copy to "UPDATE-UV.cli". Then simply click on the Update-UV.exe file (blue diamond icon with opposing blue arrows) or create a shortcut to Update-UV.exe.

I also agree with USS Maine about the utility of "TrueUpdate"..it is simply a great idea. Compare this to the user mods for Close Combat for eg.

Way to go Matrix/UV team....thanks for the great support with the prompt updates. A+ If y'all don't like USS Maine's idea...feel free to nuke my post.

BTW..anyone remember the discussion about the millions of lines of code for the anticipated "Star Wars" missile shield. Can you imagine trying to do a quick update to MissileShield.exe v 1.1 with several thousand thermonuclear warheads 15 minutes from impact?

Your trying to Ftp via Browser?

FTP is best done with a stand alone program in my view, i use WS-FTP and when you run it you can create via New a new site to connect to where all the login info above is put in and program uses to auto connect to the selected site.

slickric -> (12/12/2002 12:00:52 AM)
