Matrix the spam is getting out of control. There are what about 7 new spam threads this morning. I think the sign up for the forums needs to be far more strict and require some sort of authentication method.

The problem is that these are not bots - they are real people paid to spam boards, so there isn't much we can do to prevent them posting. Cheers Pip

There's more things you could try though. A minimum, undisclosed, waiting time before allowed to post. You could hire someone to monitor these boards better. You can ban IPs from known spamming sources. You could always require registering with a valid matrix game serial number. Or ask open ended questions when registering (What's your favorite Matrix Game) or something that takes a little more time to research (who's the VP of Operations for Matrix).

CAPTCHA and other such things are hopelessly obsolete these days. On the other hand, spam accounts are desperately easy to spot even before their first post, so a dedicated spam sheriff would be a good idea, methinks. If you got the right person, you wouldn't even have to pay them; they'd squash spammers for the joy of doing so.

A dedicated spam squasher is needed but he would most certainly need paying.. I am currently available as it happens. Dedicated, versatile, and hard working, I excel at tracking down spammers of every description and my rates are fairly reasonable although not quite as reasonable as Terminus would seem to suggest. You may consider my posts spam. That is your opinion and I can't help with that. However, the limited security we have keeps me out half the time as I am dyslexic and I do not like to wear my glasses. It certainly does not stop spammers. As for people paid to spam, you've gotta feel sympathy for the person whose biggest decision whether to use the dollar he made today to play ping pong or buy a coke. At least a spammer does not bring me out of the shower like a telemarketer. I do not spend my life waiting for posts to troll bomb so they do not bother me much. Except for soojan who is special....

I have a feeling they search for different words to find websites, not trying to be a kill joy but since the more non wargaming threads have started we seem to have alot more spam, as it's the general discussion board they mainly hit.
